Nestled 12 kilometres off the New England Highway, in the heart of Queensland's wine country, The Folly is a 1700 acre cattle and sheep property. The Ironbark Hut is ideal for families or two couples with one bedroom, fold out sofa and a loft. Very quiet and peaceful. The Ironbark Hut is a basic and cosy timber cabin, with rustic features alongside modern touches for added comfort. It is ideal for families or two couples with one bedroom, as well as a pull-out sofa bed; ideal for teenagers, children, or another couple, it is able to be separated with curtains for privacy. There is also a loft with 2 single mattresses suitable for older kids. The hut also features a self contained kitchen complete with cooking utensils as well as gas fridge and cook top and BBQ outside. All linen is provided. The bathroom includes a toilet, sink and bathtub with shower. Please note - this cabin is eco-friendly with a low carbon footprint. The hut runs on 12v solar with only one power point, so you won't be able to plug any large appliances in, but you may charge phones and there is a small stereo player with radio and bluetooth connectivity. The small, yet efficient wood heater keeps the cabin toasty warm in the winter and firewood is provided free of charge. Perfect for escaping the hustle and bustle of the modern world! Whilst only being a couple of hundred metres from the main house, the cabin is situated up on the hill and is far enough away to make you feel as if you are in a world of your own! Being located 10 minutes from Ballandean itself and 30 minutes to Stanthorpe it is in the perfect location to escape to the country, explore national parks and wineries, and relax and unwind. PLEASE NOTE: If you're looking for 5-star luxury in the centre of the CBD, then this is not the place for you! Ballandean is a popular destination for tourists all year round, but is most popular in the winter. Visitors come to enjoy the cool days and frosty mornings in front of a cosy fire. There are at least 50 different wineries across the Granite Belt with many winning national and international awards every year for their products. There are many options for those dining out in Ballandean itself with some very nice restaurants showcasing local produce. The hut is in the perfect location for those wishing to explore Girraween or Sundown national parks, or perhaps just take a bushwalk around the hills on the property. Being 10 minutes from the nearest shop it is advised to do your shopping before you arrive, although basic necessities such as tea, coffee, milk and sugar are provided. There are a number of activities that can be enjoyed at The Folly including fishing, birdwatching, bushwalking, mountain bike riding and four wheel drive tracks through the hills. As we run a working farm, we may not always be available. We have sheep, cattle, donkeys, chickens, dogs and horses. Feel free to bring carrots to feed the donkeys - they are definitely the friendliest animals on the farm and love a nose scratch and a chat. We ask that you refrain from feeding any other food to the donkeys. Guest are welcome to help themselves to farm-fresh organic eggs from the chook pen (subject to availability!) and tip food scraps over the fence for the pig. We usually try to be around when guests are staying, however there are times when we may have other commitments elsewhere. We will let you know if we are unable to be here, and are only a phonecall away. Please feel free to come and have a chat with us, we are happy to answer questions to make your stay more enjoyable. There is no public transport in Ballandean and no Uber. Taxis do service the area, but are very expensive. If you plan to indulge in the local wineries, it is probably best to organise a designated driver or book a wine tour. Whilst we will make every effort to meet you when you check in, sometimes this is not possible. A house manual is in the cabin that explains how things work in the hut and should answer any questions you have, although we are always only a phonecall away. Please be careful if you are intending to arrive at night. We ask that you drive with due care and vigilance along Bents road as there can be a lot of deer and kangaroos at certain times of the year.
