Unique Farmhouse: The Silhouette Room

Quite tiny, yet cozy and functional, the Silhouette Room is a "pocket" room with much charm. The bed is super comfy and just a wee bit smaller than a Full sized bed by today's standards. It will sleep a snuggly couple or one person blissfully. (If you are very tall then this is not the bedroom for you. Please see my other 2 bedrooms for further options.) Like spending a night in a museum, this fully restored and uniquely decorated 1870s farmhouse will delight you with its oddly wonderful decor! The bedrooms in this fully renovated 1870s farmhouse are thematically decorated, each with their own style and motif. Three are available for rental; the tiny Silhouette Room (listed here), the Green Room and the War Room (both listed separately). Each each room can sleep two people per, so all together I can host a group of six, pending the other rooms are not already booked. Filled with antiques and curiosities, the whole house has a real unique look and feel. Outside, I have 5 rural acres of land that go from flat, to heading up the mountain through a meadow behind the house. Follow the maintained trails to the top of the property and the view is something to see - especially during sunset. There is also a huge field stone fire-pit for outdoor fires and a sweet small pond on the property (that I affectionately call "the puddle") with surrounding benches for maximum frog and salamander spotting! There are two additional bathrooms (1 upstairs + 1 downstairs) that are just for guests to use. As little or as much as they would like. The farmhouse is located in the spectacular Denver-Vega Valley which is in the Township of historic Roxbury, NY. in Delaware County. It is on a County road that comes to a dead-end less than 3 miles past the house, so there are not many cars driving by in front of the property. Named one of the top five most scenic valleys in the Catskills, the Denver-Vega Valley is just 15 minutes away from two local ski centers; Belleayre Mountain in Highmount, NY and Plattekill Mountain in Roxbury, NY. If winter sports are your thing, you'll be happy to know that I am centrally located between the two. Hunter and Windham Ski Mountains are approximately 45mins away as well. If you're not really a winter sport nut but still wanna have some fun - stick around the house and go sledding down the hill in the back meadow! I am a member of a small country club and during the summer months have access to an incredible heated outdoor pool with a diving-board and a wonderful view. In addition, there are two tennis courts, a few putting greens, a small kids playground and volleyball area too. The club is 3/4 of a mile away from the house and I am able to bring guests down anytime for your swimming pleasure! Other things to do and types of places to go that are all VERY close by: - Local Restaurants - Hiking (plenty of state trails) - Biking - Golfing - Kayaking - Canoeing - River Tubing - Fishing - Waterfalls - Firetower Scenic Look-outs - Unique Local Shopping - Antique Barns/Stores - Auction Houses - Lots of Local Garage/Tag Sales - Many Local Art Galleries - Horseback Riding - Scenic Train Rides - Community Fitness Center/Gym with Huge Indoor Pool - Tons of Local Farm-stands/Green Markets - Year Round Local Street Fairs/Carnivals - Outdoor Summer Movies - The Belleayre Summer Music Festival - The Phoencia International Festival of the Voice - Winter Sports; Skiing, Snowboarding, Cross County, Snowshoeing and Snow Tubing. If interested in any of the above, I can provide more details/info. And sometimes doing nothing but relaxing is the best course of action! In which case I would encourage chatting or reading on the porch or in the hammocks on the lawn - then some star-gazing at night. There are some real beautiful night skies up here. A car is a must (preferably one with four wheel drive in the winter). The house is 2hrs & 45mins from midtown Manhattan with no traffic. There is also the option of the Adirondack Trailways bus line that departs from Port Authority in NYC and drops you 10mins from the house in the nearby villages of either Fleischmanns or Arkville. A local car can be rented in the village of Margaretville which is close to both for the duration of your visit. As per her picture in my profile, I have a wonderful 6 year old German Shepherd. She will greet you with the standard German Shepherd salute, aka: a little bit of barking when you arrive, but will settle down after a few moments. The biggest supermarket in this area is located in Margaretville, which is only 10mins away. I will provide you with both a local food guide and local outdoor guide and can point you in the right direction for the best activities and restaurants in the area.
