Its major importance is the Mother Church which is thought to date from the 15th century and the local cemetery which seems to serve a number of villages in the immediate area. The church contains some precious religious artefacts. The local 'Central Bar' does a roaring lunch time trade Mon-Sat for a fixed price 'Prato do Dia' for €7.00 which includes a beer or house wine, soup, main meal and an item of fruit for afters. You best go armed with your translation book (or phone app), the menu is generally written on the board outside. Seems that there is always something going on in Cumieira at different times in the year especially at weekends, be it a Festa, some form of religious ceremony, off road bike races, downhill cart racing and many other things bringing a party atmosphere to the village. It is almost impossible to exist without a car in Cumieira as buses are very few and far between. There are however, two train stations at both Pombal and Coimbra B both of which are on the main line between Porto,Lisbon and the Algarve. It is in practice quite possible to catch a train from these stations to take you all over Portugal and anywhere else in Europe.Travelling times by Taxi to either of these stations is around 30 minutes. There are also coach stations at Pombal and Coimbra where once again you can get to anywhere you like in Europe. Guests who stay for a couple of weeks very often take advantage of the cheap midweek family deals and travel to Lisbon one week and Porto the next. Also all travellers over the age of 65 get half price travel regardless of nationality (don't forget your passport for proof of age). Taxi's are not difficult to arrange and relatively inexpensive. Telephone numbers for ordering taxi's are contained in your general information bundle in your apartment. Finally, parking is free, plentiful and safe. There exists parking places for 2-3 cars at the front of the property, other than that please park in the public spaces opposite the Church (about 50 metres from the main entrance to the apartments.
