Our newly built, beautiful shepherd's hut is situated in the garden of our 1860s cottage, where the quirky market town of Ulverston connects with the South Lakeland countryside. Settle into the comfy double bed, relax in the garden and enjoy the views! The hut is off grid and is powered by gas and solar panel generated electricity. The only sockets are USB plug sockets to charge phones Listen to the birds, relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Our cosy shepherd's hut is located at the top of our garden, with a view down the garden and across the fields. The handcrafted hut is self contained, with a kitchenette (gas hob, fridge, sink), bathroom with shower, double bed, table and chairs, woodburner and patio doors. It is insulated with Cumbrian Herdwick sheep wool. The hut was made locally, using locally sourced materials wherever possible. The large garden has lots of seated areas and is there to be enjoyed whenever you like. As it is our garden, we may be out enjoying it sometimes too. Situated on the outskirts of the festival town of Ulverston, our home sits on a merging of landscapes. We are within walking distance of the town centre, yet live in a peaceful space backing onto the South Lakeland countryside. We are visited by lots of wildlife.. over 50 species of birds spotted in the time we have lived here as well as foxes, deer, rabbits, frogs and lots more! The hut will be your private space for your stay. You are welcome to share our garden anytime you like. Access to the hut is via a gate. We will be at home in our cottage during your stay and are happy to answer any questions. We could maybe even show you some local sights if you would like. We are happy to be social, or to give you space.. whatever suits you. Ulverston has so much to offer visitors. Being situated at the Southern gateway to the Lake District National Park, the lakes and fells are only a short distance away. The Furness peninsula has many habitats to enjoy - from bluebell woodlands to breezy Morecambe bay strolls. Visit Roy on the coast road for a fantastic ice cream! The town is close to Haverthwaite steam railway, Grizedale forest, multiple National Trust properties, bird reserves and the Manjushri Kadampa Meditation Centre. Ulverston is a festival town, with a multitude of events to enjoy throughout the year. We have a fantastic and quaint cinema, theatre and a cobbled high street with mostly independent shops. There is free street parking at the front of our home. Ulverston has great public transport connections - the train line comes in from Lancaster across Morecambe bay.. it is a stunning journey. There are also bus connections to Barrow, Dalton, Coniston, Windermere and Kendal. Both the bus and train stations are a 25 minute walk from our house - along the beautiful rope walk green way which runs alongside the bubbling 'Dragley beck'. If you need groceries, you can walk to Booths along the canal (about 30 minutes). We have cats, hens and lots of bees. The bees are right down at the bottom of the garden in the wildlife area. The likelihood of being stung is very low unless you go within a few feet of the hive. The hut is very well insulated. The only source of heating is the cosy hobbit woodburning stove. Being situated at the top of our garden, the hut is near a road and gets some traffic noise. It is generally quiet, but does get work commuters passing by at peak times of day.
