*Note there is a minimum number of guests and nights during weekend and holiday periods, please use Contact Host to make an enquiry* A quirky Baptist Chapel in the Brecon Beacons National Park. 15 minutes from Crickhowell and Abergavenny with a secret story. Flexible sleeping arrangements. Cosy nights in front of the wood burner with friends or family. A peaceful and calming place to read, play the piano, listen to music, sing, cook with adventures from the doorstep or just do nothing ! Hugh’s Chapel comprises of two self-contained but adjoining spaces, suited to a romantic or special weekend for two or a get together with family and friends, up to a maximum of 8 persons. We just let to a single group and expand the space available depending on the group size. By default for bookings up to four persons you will be in the main chapel. If you are a bigger group then we will expand out into the Sunday School area through the pulpit door which is normally kept locked. If you are four and particularly want both parts we are happy to discuss and the best thing to do is contact us through contact host option. Unfortunately its difficult to cover this flexibility within airbnb pricing system at present. We try and make it affordable for small and large groups. Hughs Chapel is the main part with the main double bedroom with lots of sleeping possibilities for fold out beds in the main chapel. There are lots of little corners if you want some time to yourself or to read a book. Its great acoustically and listening to music is wonderful. But its the feeling of those thick, calming stone walls that is really special and the light that comes in through the windows at different times of the day. Its simply furnished but comfortable. From that point of view its easy to relax into the feel of the Chapel. The Chapel’s story is also something unique but you will have to find that out for yourself! Through the adjoining pulpit door are the Sunday School Rooms which houses a double Bedroom with arched window and nice views, family bathroom with bath and shower, back door, stairs leading to upstairs third bedroom / living room with foldout double sofa bed and is spacious. Off that space is a small fully functioning kitchen with great views of the black mountains. There is a set of french doors onto a deck area with views of the black mountains that leads onto a private garden with trampoline. This area gets a nice drop of sunshine from late morning until the sun sets. Guests have access to the garden and trampoline. I like to give guests space but also provide enough information that they can really get the most out of their time and experience some of the things we love about the area whatever your taste. When you are staying for a short period of time its so easy to miss those things. Its taken us years to find discover some of the places just on the doorstep and try out places to eat. I have also used Airbnb to go away and I always find its nice to meet hosts even if its just once to know who you are dealing with. I usually call up early on in the stay to make sure you have worked out where everything is and answer any questions and got everything you need. Then I usually find using the airbnb mails text or (Hidden by Airbnb) deals with most things without impacting on your time. Friendly and welcoming, quiet apart from lots of sheep on the hills and cows in local farmers field so sounds very rural. You will be warmly welcomed into the local pubs You can hear the streams in the background. Very old industrial archaeology tramways, railways, quarry working, iron works hidden in every corner. Hidden valleys, beech woods, small waterfalls, lots of birdlife, Owls at night, Cuckoos, woodpeckers, peregrines. Despite this very good links to Abergavenny 15mins by car and only 25mins by bike downhill ! So good base to go and explore the rest of the National Park or further a field Cardiff, Gower Peninsula, Forest of Dean, Wye Valley. You will probably find it easiest and get the most out of Brecons in a car but it's not essential. Bikes work really well as Chapel is right on a stunning Sustrans cycle route NCN46. Train to Abergavenny then cycle and use one of many supermarkets that deliver here. There are regular buses hourly that travel the heads of valleys road then a 20min walk up steep hill. There is a local minibus into village between Brynmawr and Abergavenny which is less frequent. Taxi fairly is inexpensive from Abergavenny so walk and taxi when you get tired is an option. Parking Note : There is space for two small cars or one larger one outside the Chapel although our preference is for one. There is potential to accommodate other cars but please let us know if you have more than one vehicle. Please note that the mezzanine space is accessed by a spiral staircase with no handrail. We therefore advise that it is used by adults or children over 8 at parents discretion. Use of the mezzanine is at guests own risk. The two single beds are folding beds that can be put anywhere in the Chapel. One of them is a full single bed size and very suitable for an adult. The other is narrower typical folding bed size and slightly shorter more suitable for a smaller lighter person child or teenager although I have had a few comfy nights on it. Unfortunately there is no description for folding bed and these are much more comfortable than a floor mattress. The beds can be moved around quite easily to suit your circumstances and for a couple of years now all our groups that have stayed have been in the main Chapel as we were still completing the Sunday School. All have been very happy there and you can read the reviews for yourself. There are several areas within the common space - The mezzanine, The pulpit landing area and even within the main area there are corners that work quite nicely for the beds with some privacy without impacting on the main sitting, cooking, eating areas. The bathroom which is a shower and toilet is small but adequate. The Wifi is a mobile wifi which is 10x faster than our telephone line broadband which is still in the dark ages. However I just couldn't find an unlimited use package so there's not enough to be constantly gaming or streaming films. It's there for Internet browsing, email, remote working, music and occasional film. Remember to switch wifi off your device when not in use and switch up background App updating as its surprising how much they use up updating themselves in the background.
