Maja's Hideaway is set deep in our large private forest. Handmade out of many reclaimed materials by Jaap, and personally designed to blend into the glorious high trees by Lucinda, with 10.5m metres of glass so you can watch the animals pass by from the sofa. The terrace is a morning sun trap for a great yoga and meditation session followed by breakfast to the birdsong chorus. Perfect for a couple (plus baby in cot) or 2 friends. Time for a nature fix with all the comforts you wish for? Maja's Hideaway lies deep in our forest, offering a totally unique nature experience in the Veluwe. From the comfort of your king sized bed, or whilst sipping wine on the Chesterfield sofa, you can gaze at the forest trees towering above you, both day and night. If you are lucky the deer might even wander past. There is central heating in the floor near the glass front. It is built on an existing old steel frame, which 'supported' a completely delapidated old caravan with a tree through the middle of it, 15 year old milk bottles and a pair of clogs. We designed Maja's Hideaway to melt into the forest, to be part of this beautiful environment, so you can fully experience the nature whilst enjoying quirky luxury. Jaap built this place from scratch with the help of his eldest son, Maarten (21), thus: Ma-Ja's Hideaway. Jaap spent months working alongside our two younger sons, Rafi (5) and Archie (3) teaching them seriously useful skills: sawing, screwdriver work, plastering, plumbing, painting. I made the coffee and tactfully pointed out what still needed some more work :) Jaap and his sons made Maja's Hideaway from as many reclaimed materials as we could get hold of: the glass, windows, doors, wooden floor, kitchen, sofa, dining table/ desk, chairs, bed frame, lamps, poof, curtains, kitchenware. We restored it all with love and put it to work again. We aim to offer luxury and convenience. All basic foodstuffs are provided in the fully fitted kitchen so you just bring your meals, fresh food, and drinks. The bed will be made up ready, towels sitting ready for you. There's wifi, but no television: it's far too romantic for that. There's a travel cot with a good extra mattress, protector and sheet, that can just fit down the side of the main bed. This means one baby can stay. Should you want to bring a child older than 2 years old, please look to booking the Gingerbread Huis instead as it's fully equipped for kids and toddlers. Maja's Hideaway is a romantic spot, to stop, and take some you-time. For that reason there are meditation cushions, and a yoga mat, as the terrace is perfectly positioned to soak up the morning sun for your sun salutations followed by breakfast. 6000m2 private forest (shared with guests of Gingerbread Huis) Bikes in the bike shed (also shared) I'm always available online. My caretaker lives 5 minutes cycle ride away and is on hand to help you, in person, if necessary. Maja's Hideaway in 6000m2 of private forest, on the edge of the Veluwe (the national forest reserve of the Netherlands), about 200m through the trees from it's nearest neighbour. The land is on a proper country lane which is no thoroughfare meaning that only farmers use it to access the land, people drive slowly by to park and walk their dogs in the public forest, casual cyclists, and many horses - both ridden and driving carriages. If you cycle down the end of the lane you come to the Immenbergweg station of the Veluwsche Stoomtrein - steam train, which runs every weekend and often during the school holidays. Listen out for the toot-toot. It's very impressive to see. The nearest village is actually Oosterhuizen. It's 5 kms from the culinary village of Beekbergen which has 14 restaurants. Apeldoorn is about a 15 minute drive away. It's a hub of tourism during the spring to autumn - home to the monkey park Apenheul, Palais Het Loo, Julianatoren and much more. You are 11 minutes drive from the largest spa and sauna complex in the Netherlands - Thermen Bussloo. This is on the edge of Bussloo lake which is lovely to spend the day swimming in. The Hoge Veluwe National Park is not far away, and many guests spend a day there cycling around trying to spot wildlife and visiting the Kroller-Muller museum. You can park on the property. Public transport will easily bring you to Apeldoorn station, then you need to rent bikes. The Supermarket is 5kms away in Beekbergen. It's certainly much easier by car. You use the driveway of the Gingerbread Huis, a drive left behind the bike shed, around the back into the forest where you can park about 10 metres from Maja's Hideaway.
