The Loft at The Retreat
The Loft at The Retreat is a lovely unique and OFF GRID space in a stunning location. If you're not put off by it's low ceiling and minimal electricity (we use solar power for lighting/phone charging and have a portable DVD player which guests can use) Our shower is an outdoor shower with hot water and the toilet is a compost loo. The kitchen is a basic outdoor set up and guests are welcome to dine at our Viking inspired long table. Guests are also welcome to use our pizza oven and BBQ. Whether it's Roman Cirencester or Bohemian Stroud, riding stables or glider experiences, quiet walks or just a chance to escape that you're after, there's something for everyone here. The loft is on our campsite which can site 6 tents so you may end up sharing the site with other people and dogs. We don't allow children under 12 and sorry no dogs allowed in the loft. There is a train track which runs along side our site so please expect to hear the sound of trains every so often. We will be on site to help with any problems and answer any questions. Staying somewhere totally off grid is an interesting and fantastic experience. We are situated between two fantastic typical country pubs so if you fancy locally sourced food and beer it's just a short walk along farm tracks and along an old canal path. The village shop is a 30 minute stroll through fields with stunning views (it doesn't take everyone as long but the views can be distracting) Carry a camera at ALL times and if you're anything like me a memory card to help store all the photos I'm sure you will take. The wildlife/valley/weather all create the most amazing photographs. Don't forget to make time for a trip to the Winstone's ice cream factory, a tiny ice cream shop in the middle of the common. The nearest train station to us is Stroud and although there is a bus stop just a short walk away please remember this is the countryside and buses are limited (some might call them mythical creatures) Driving or cycling are your best options but please take care when driving around the country lanes as horses are a regular sighting and livestock roam free on the local common. Parking is limited but available and is a short walk away from our site. Access to our site is a 2 minute walk over a train track and down a country track which adds to the magic of staying in the middle of nowhere. Please take care when crossing the tracks.
