Independent en suite room in cosy village cottage.
Newly re-decorated (still a fresh-paint smell!) triple aspect ground floor bedroom with en suite bathroom (and shower), two good quality standard-width single beds (plus air-bed for a third person if required), workspace with desk & chair, books and tourist information, along with independent access for guests. The house is on a quiet road right next to the pretty River Gascoigne. Ideal as a base for visiting Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire. Kettle, tea and coffee provided in the room. Our house was built in about (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) right next to the river! So the views from two of the windows are of the river and you can hear the water trickle by... Please note that due to the age of the floorboards, you might well hear us talking and/or walking around in the room above and on the stairs! And we might hear you! Also, some mobile phone networks don't do well here... (We had to switch to O2 when we moved in.) However, if you can use ‘Wifi calling’ then you will be fine. If you are cycling, bikes can be locked in our very safe garden shed overnight. There is space for an air-bed ( (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) cm) in the room so with a bit of furniture rejigging, the room can accommodate three people - although it is quite a squash! We don't provide breakfast as a matter of course but please enquire if breakfast is a deal-breaker and we will see what we can do! No access to kitchen or cooking facilities. We will be here to welcome you when you arrive and to help with any immediate needs. There is likely to be someone at home most of the time during your stay but we cannot guarantee that there will always be someone here during the day to help if you have queries. Milborne Port is a quiet village with a lot of its own interesting history just a five minute drive from the lovely abbey town of Sherborne. Whilst it is now mainly residential, there are farms close by and there used to be tanneries and glove factories in the village. Kingsbury Regis was at one time its own entity and most of the old buildings in this area are associated with its farming past. There are two pubs in the village, a fabulous haute cuisine restaurant called The Clockspire, a Co-operative supermarket, a fish and chip shop and restaurant, a chemist, a newsagent, a petrol station that is home to the Post Office, a doctors' surgery and a real butcher! All are within 5-15 minutes' walk. There are buses to local towns and villages. The closest railway stations are in Sherborne and Templecombe, both on the Exeter-Waterloo line (South West trains). We have a box of toys (quite girly!) and books suitable for a young child. We have an orthopaedic pillow that you could use if you have problems with your neck. We have two very friendly dogs and so we ask that you double check that you have closed the garden gate properly if they are pottering around the garden! If you are cycling, bikes can be locked in our very secure garden shed overnight. If you are booking for a Sunday or Monday night, be aware that there is nowhere to eat out in the village on those evenings, although the fish & chip shop is open on a Monday evening for takeaways (closed on Sunday evenings). You would need to drive into Sherborne for the nearest sit-down restaurant. My wife and I both work so be prepared for the normal sounds of morning life, on weekdays mornings in particular!
