A week around Ironbridge and Shropshire There’s a lot to see in the region around Ironbridge and in Shropshire; more than you may think! So we’ve put together a sample itinerary, with ideas to show how you might easily spend an enjoyable week here. Day 1 Arrive. Go shopping, walk into Ironbridge, look around, have a tea and see the famous iron bridge. Day 2 AM: Go to the Coalbrookdale museum, on the site where Abraham Darby set the industrial revolution in motion. PM: For kids, there’s RAF Cosford museum of flying. Groups of adults might prefer Weston Park and stately home, followed by afternoon tea at David Austin Roses. Day 3 AM: Take some exercise and go for a walk up the Wrekin hill, Telford’s local landmark. Fabulous views of the Welsh borders from the top. PM: Buildwas Abbey is a beautiful former Cistercian abbey, dating back to the 12th century church. Finish with a walk along the banks of the river Severn. Day 4 AM: The Blists Hill museum just across the river, depicts life in Victorian England during its industrial heyday. The Jackfield Tile factory was at one time one of the largest tile producers in Britain. PM: Bridgnorth is a picturesque country town, on a hill with a funicular railway. It is also home to the Severn Valley railway - take a trip on a steam train to Bewdley. Day 5 AM/PM: Stretch your legs, take in some wonderful views and see quaint Shropshire villages on a trip via the Shropshire Hills to Ludlow, Church Stretton, the Long Mynd and Clee Hill. Day 6 AM: Spend the morning looking around Ironbridge. Maybe buy an original Merrythought teddy bear for a loved one! PM: Viriconium (Wroxeter) was the fourth largest Roman city in Britain and almost as large as Pompeii. Explore the bath house and a reconstructed town house. Day 7 AM. Visit historic Shrewsbury with its abbey and wonderful indoor market hall, where individual traders are thriving. PM: Attingham Park is a Regency mansion set in landscaped grounds, with an impressive Nash staircase. Alternatively, go to the Wyre forest with walking and activity trails in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Day 8 Depart, but don't leave it too long before coming back! We like to have some sort of vague idea of who is coming to the house, so if you want to book, we do appreciate just a few details about the group: is it a family or friends, a very rough idea of age range, any pets and the number of cars that might be coming. It's really helpful if you can supply this. Pricing is based on a group of 4. There is a per guest additional charge for groups of 5 or 6.
