The island is a great place to try out a new water sport or take a course. Kite surfing, windsurfing, stand up paddle boarding, kayaking and sailing can be arranged for groups or individuals (see contact details below). The house offers a great base for walkers who can enjoy the beautiful walks around the island and in Chichester harbour. For those who just want to get away from it all, the views, whatever the weather, are incredible and ever changing. You don't need to go anywhere, just relax on the sofas on the balcony; have a bbq in the garden or snuggle up round the fire pit at night. Seascape is kid friendly, with its enclosed patio garden, stair gates, high chairs and travel cots. Baby sitting is available on request. There is no road to cross to get to the beach. The promenade, which is on the other side of the gate, goes from one end of the island to the other, making it particularly suitable for buggies, scooters and bikes as well as walkers. A ten minute walk along the promenade takes you to the ice cream parlour and the best fish and chip shop. From here you can catch the light railway along the coast to the funfair at Beachlands. Ground Floor: 2 super king/twin bedrooms, one with en suite 1 double bedroom 1 bunk room with 2 sets of bunk beds Family shower room Utility room Garage for storage Enclosed patio garden First Floor: Open plan living/dining/sitting area with patio doors onto roof terrace and panoramic sea views. Kitchen with electric oven, gas hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher & coffee machine. WHAT TO DO: At the house… Sit and watch the world go by. The seascape is ever changing with the wind and weather. You will see sailing boats, sea kayaks, cruisers and tankers pass by. You may see light aircraft playing in the sky above or a lifeboat and coastguard helicopter practising a rescue out at sea. Read, relax, watch a film, listen to music, do a puzzle, play a board game (find them in the tv cupboard) Have a BBQ in the garden (briquettes in the garage) On the beach… Eat fish and chips (from The Coastguard, 10 mins walk away) Sit in a deck chair at the water’s edge (deckchairs in the garage) Take a dip (towels in utility room) Paddle in a sea kayak (stored in garage, please wear a buoyancy aid!) Build your masterpiece in the sand at low tide (buckets and spades in garage) Go Fishing (tackle and bait can be bought from tackle shop on Creek Rd, 5 mins walk away) Fly a kite (one in garage) Stretch your legs… Go for a stroll, cycle or scooter along the promenade on the other side of the garden gate. 10 minutes walk west takes you to Eastoke corner with its fabulous Coastguard fish and chip shop and Pepperelli’s Ice cream parlour. From here you can… Follow the seafront exercise trail or take a ride on the little steam train which takes you along the sea front to… The traditional seaside fun fair at Beachlands or take your skate board to the hayling skate park. From here you can… Walk further along the beach to Inn on the Beach which has fabulous food and spectacular views and you can watch the windsurfers and kite surfers at play. If you take a stroll east from the house, you’ll pass the nature reserve (take your binoculars, it’s a haven for birds and birdwathers!), the life boat centre and the sailing club, to Sandy Point at the mouth of Chichester Harbour. Views of the south downs, the Witterings and East Head are stunning and at low tide, you can walk onto the sand bar ‘island’. Go crabbing (nets in the garage). If you walk all the way round sandy point, past the sailing club you reach an inlet. There is a little bridge back to the mainland and if you cast your nets into the muddy water below, with a little bacon, the crabs will be unable to resist…. Away from the house… Cycle or walk the Hayling Billy Trail. You can cycle or drive to the end of the old rail track which ran from Havant to West Town. It is an easy coastal trail and The Ship Inn in Langstone Harbour makes the perfect place to stop for refreshments before you head back to West Town. At Ferry Point, on the western point of the island, board the Rosie K for a fabulous harbour boat tour of Langstone Harbour. It’s best to book at low tide to increase your chances of seeing the harbour seals. Swing a golf club at the pay and play Hayling Island golf club on the coast or Tournebury. Swing a racket at the pay and play tennis courts at Hayling Community Centre Hire or book a lesson on a paddle board, windsurf or kite surf (contact andy biggs watersports, west town) Dine out! There are many great places to eat on the island… Explore further afield… Drive east to Chichester with its Cathedral, Roman Villa and the beach at The Witterings and East Head Nature Reserve. Take a boat cruise with Chichester Harbour Water Tours. Go to an event at Goodwood or the races at Fontwell Drive west to Portsmouth. Visit the Historic Dockyards to see the HMS Victory & Warrior and the Mary Rose and a Harbour Tour around the active naval base. Check out the views from Spinnaker Tower at Gunwharf Quays, shop at the outlet stores, bowl or watch a movie. Drive further west to visit the Maritime History at Southampton. Take the kids to the Inflatables water park at Chichester, Marwell Zoo, the Blue Reef Aquarium in Southsea or Peppa Pig World at Paultons Park Take a day trip to the Isle of Wight by car ferry from Portsmouth or on foot by hovercraft from Southsea Take a walk on The South Downs Way or visit Queen Elizabeth Country Park or Stansted Park Take a steam train ride on the Bluebell Railway in Sussex or the Watercress Line between Alton and Alresford I live nearby and am happy and available to offer any help required or answer any queries that you might have before or during your stay It is a short walk to local shops and eateries. The nature reserve, Hayling Island Sailing Club and light railway to the fun fair at Beachlands are nearby. Hayling is renowned for its windsurfing, sailing and kite surfing. Other water sports and activities include kayaking, golf, beach fishing, skateboarding, cycling, tennis and scenic walks. Bikes & watersports equipment can be hired locally and golf courses and tennis courts are available for public use (for a fee). There is loads for children and adults to do on the island and it makes a perfect holiday destination for all. There are beautiful coastal walks from the house. Walk east, past the nature reserve to sandy point at the mouth of Chichester Harbour. Walk west along the sea front to the ice cream parlour and catch the little steam train to the funfair. Continue west to the fantastic Inn on the Beach restaurant, where you have the most wonderful views and can watch all the windsurfers and kite surfers at play. Continue west past the golf course and on to ferry boat inn which also has the most wonderful views of the harbour. From here you can catch the hayling ferry to Portsmouth & Southsea. Portsmouth is a great family destination with its Historic Dockyards, attractions and shopping. Southsea is fab for children. There is an aquarium and Pyramids swimming pool which has water slides. There are great restaurants on the beach, a little boating lake, a funfair and crazy golf. Due to its flat terrain, Hayling Island is great for cycling. You can cycle from east to west along the promenade on the sea front. The Hayling Billy Trail is the old railway line from Havant and makes a great family bike ride from West Hayling to Langstone Harbour, where lunch (and crabbing!) can be enjoyed at the Ship Inn. If you would like to try a new watersport or go on a course, there are plenty of opportunities on Hayling Island. For windsurfing and stand up paddle boarding get in touch with Phil at getwindsurfing or getsuping. For kite surfing, contact CBK kitesurfing. If you would like to go kayaking or sailing, get in touch with Andrew Simpson watersports centre, Portsmouth. Kayaks and stand up paddle boards can be hired from Andy Biggs Watersports . Frequent buses (every 15mins) to the door make travelling around the island easy. Plenty of parking is available. It is flat terrain so cycling and walking are very popular on the island. Closest train station is Havant. If you are planning to stay for the weekend, please enquire about a later checkout on a Sunday. Whenever possible, we will delay the changeover until Monday so that you can check out as late as you like on Sunday. However, this is only possible out of peak season.
