Cornerstone - a bird watchers' paradise

Cornerstone's main features are the birds and the privacy. After leaving the beaten track and taking some unmade roads you will travel up a 500m drive through dense ti-tree. Our goal is to preserve this Winkarlin bush island in perpetuity and by staying at Cornerstone you are helping us make this vision financially viable! Cornerstone is a comfortable house for a holiday with family or friends. It has two queen bedrooms, one with ensuite, and third bedroom with two singles. As well as the ensuite bathroom there is also a central bathroom with shower and toilet. If you hear the patter of feet on the roof in the night please do not be alarmed they are probably only possums and other native creatures. The whole house and grounds. Hopefully I can solve problems over the phone. Over 100 different bird species have been identified in and around Cornerstone. For example, there are flocks of Blue-winged parrots breeding there. We are always hoping to spot one with an orange belly! You might see wallabies on the driveway and we regularly see wombats, blue-tongues and echidnas. Corner Inlet is a marine park and the bird life on the beach is stunning! On clear, moonless nights you will have perfect conditions for stargazing. You will see stars and galaxies that are never visible from city or town areas. Don't merely treat Cornerstone as a place to sleep when you visit the Prom. Make sure you have time to explore the local bush, you might see koalas, wombats, echidnas, wallabies, blue-tongued lizards, snakes and many more native animals. Winkarlin beach is a well kept secret. Even the Yanakie locals do not know about it so do not be surprised if you walk for miles along the beach and never see another person! At some times of year there are snakes about but so long as you watch your feet in the bush and do not approach them they will quickly leave. You may also find that mosquitoes and sandflies can be a nuisance so I suggest you bring a suitable bug spray to discourage them. They tend to be worse in the hot weather, on calm days, especially in the evenings. The final roads to Cornerstone are unpaved but they are maintained and any car can travel them - you just need to slow down a bit! The closest store is the Yanakie General Store which provides groceries, papers, coffee, fish'n'chips, beer, wine, petrol and pretty much anything you might need less than 10 minutes away. Or drive the 17k into Foster to have a wide range of shops and cafes to choose from. Do not be concerned by the water being collected off the roof, you will not find cleaner or more delicious water coming out of pipes anywhere! But we would appreciate it if you would be thoughtful with your water usage. There is satellite internet and good 3G coverage from Telstra and Optus. For the cooler times of the year there is a wood burning stove and we provide firewood. The final kilometres of road to reach Cornerstone are unsealed. No problem driving them in a regular car so long as you keep your speed reasonable but it can get dusty in dry periods. It is possible during periods of very heavy rain there might be a problem with some places on the road flooding but this is very unusual. We do not allow pets at Cornerstone.
