It has a post office incorporating a village store, garage, farm shop/cafe (200m). The village pub 'The Malt Shovel Inn' dates back many centuries and is old fashioned in approach and friendly. Other local pubs are The Forge Hammer which is also home to its own micro brewery and also a curry restaurant and take away and The Royal Spring. The Forest is easily accessible and Puzzle Wood (Star Wars, Merlin etc) is about 15 mins away by car (Coleford). The cottage is an ideal hub for the Forest but remember Gloucester, Cardiff, Cheltenham, Monmouth or Hereford are all well within a short car trip... should the peace or all of the Forest's outside activities prove too much to bear. Our international guests often go further afield to visit Warick Castle (12th century) and Shakespeare country; Stratford upon Avon. Ruardean is on the No 22 Stage Coach route Gloucester / Ross on Wye. Rick and Anne will also whizz you around some of the main Forest attractions if they are around to help orientate you and to get the best from your visit. We are members of the Forest of Dean Tourism so we are keen that you discover all what the Forest can offer. Bristol is the closest regional airport followed by Birmingham. There are good train connections from Gloucester and Chepstow. STOP PRESS: LATE AVAILABILITY due to cancellation dates of 29 March to 31 March 2022 available (3 Nights Short Break.
