Mawnan Smith is an idyllic Cornish village situated between the magical Helford River and sandy beaches and bustling maritime town of Falmouth. It is home to two world renowned and beautiful sub-tropical gardens, Trebah and Glendurgan. They are both within walking distance, nestled on the banks of the magical Helford River, made famous in Daphne Du Maurier novel Frenchman's Creek. They offer café facilities and their winding pathways lead gently down to pretty coves suitable for bathing. The village centres around the quaint and handsome sixteenth century thatched Red Lion pub, which along with AWNA café and the general store are within walking distance. The idyllic Ferryboat Inn sits on the shoreline and is just a five-minute drive or, if you want to work up an appetite, a short coastal path walk away. You can while away the hours watching the boats passing by and enjoying local food and drink, such as fresh seafood platters and refreshing Cornish cider and ales. Mawnan Old Church, perched above the mouth of the beautiful Helford River, is a quiet haven of peace and is situated beside the coastal path. The coast path is easily accessible and takes in the dramatic scenery between Falmouth, with the dramatic and historic Pendennis Castle, and the tranquil creeks of the Helford River teaming with local sea and wildlife. Sea safari's, night kayaking, water sports and boat trips take you out into the ocean and cycling trails lead you through scenery from Poldark and from one coast to another. Falmouth is a very pretty ten-minute drive along the coast or a short bus ride away, and offers an abundance of shops and excellent places to eat a wide variety of local produce, and foods from around the world. The Barn's central location makes it a perfect base from which to explore all that Cornwall has to offer, from dramatic Land's End via St. Ives and St Michael's Mount, to Padstow, Boscastle, The Eden Project and Tintagel. There is a regular bus route to Mawnan Smith from Falmouth, with a stop situated just across the road from the property. However, if you wish to explore further afield a vehicle is essential to fully enjoy all that Cornwall has to offer. There are excellent local walks, including easy access to the Cornish coastal path. We are taking extra care to sanitize your space by carrying out additional steps to reduce the spread of infection.
