With tall gum trees, sweeping lawns, abundant birdlife and river frontage, this is a magnificent area for picnics, walking, ball games and quiet contemplation on the many seats and sloping lawns surrounding the area. Here you’ll find the wonderful Renaissance Hawthorn IGA (at 550 Glenferrie Road) which has an abundance of gourmet food, a well-stocked liquor supply and everything you’ll need for provisions during your stay. Heading west, both trams provide easy access (20 minutes in non-peak times) to the CBD as well as a super convenient, door-to-door service to the MCG, Rod Laver Arena and the Tennis Centre, AAMI Park, the Convention Centre, Marvel Stadium and Waterfront City in the Docklands. Heading east, both trams provide access to the extensive shopping precincts of Hawthorn (alight at the Glenferrie Road stop and either walk, or catch tram 16 to the north for 1 kilometre) and Camberwell (alight at Burke Road junction which is at the heart of the Camberwell shops). A 55 hectare recreational public park, Wattle Park, is located at the terminus of tram 70. It’s well known for its 12,000 stunning wattle trees, golf course, BBQ facilities and playgrounds which include two heritage ‘W’ Class trams for extra shelter!
