Bell Cottage. A rural West Dorset village retreat.

Bell Cottage is a small but perfectly formed annexe to our home. Your own front door leads you into an uncluttered yet comfortable home from home. Your private garden area is a perfect space for relaxing. Our local pub is just a five minute walk and we are fortunate to have several award winning restaurants a short drive away. Bell Cottage is ideally situated to explore Dorset, Somerset and Devon. There are many gardens and NT properties to visit with the Jurassic coast under 30 minutes drive. We want Bell Cottage to feel like your home from home. Everything you need for your stay is provided from our well equipped kitchen to a muddy boot tray. Make yourself a cup of tea when you arrive (milk in the fridge) and settle down on the comfortable sofa to browse the comprehensive information we provide to inspire you to explore the local area. After a day out relax with a glass of wine in the garden before you cook your dinner or wander down to our local pub for a chance to meet the locals and sample landlady Kath’s cooking. Maybe you’ve walked up Golden Cap - highest point on the South Coast - and are in need of a night in with the tv, DVD, a game of scrabble or a book. The bedroom is a pretty tranquil room with a very comfortable bed made up with pure cotton linen. The en-suite has a recently upgraded shower and heated towel rail which is electric giving you dry towels even when it’s too warm to need the central heating on. If you want a day at the beach we can provide beach towels, chairs and umbrellas. You have your own front door to the cottage. A parking space is right outside the door. There is a private gravel garden with a table and seating and parasol for your own sole use. Although we live on site we do not intrude on your space but we are always here for information and help. Our friendly village pub serving home cooked food is 5 minutes walk away and there is a shop in the village. We are surrounded by the Dorset countryside with wonderful views from Bell Cottage. Although we are in a rural village, access to towns and villages is easy by car as we are on the main road to the coast. We have had guests bring their bikes; birdwatchers and serious walkers. Forde Abbey, Tintinhull, East Lambrook and Abbotsbury Gardens are some of the outstanding gardens to visit. Stourhead, Kingston Lacey, Montacute Barrington Court and Hardy's Cottage are some of the National Trust properties that can be done in a day. The coast is just 30 minutes drive. Almost everyone visits West Bay (Broadchurch location) and Lyme Regis which retains its traditional seaside atmosphere. The Jurassic Heritage coast has numerous fishing villages to visit with either a pub or cafe serving the freshest fish and seafood. Crewkerne just a few miles away is developing into an antiques town. Sherborne likewise with the added bonus of its pretty high street excellent eateries and the impressive Sherborne Abbey. If you enjoy eating out - as we do - the list of excellent restaurants, pubs and tea rooms is endless. There are two award winning restaurants in Beaminster just 3 miles away in addition to Mark Hix in Lyme Regis. A car is essential. Public transport is minimal although we are only a few minutes from Crewkerne railway station from where a day trip to Sherborne, Salisbury or Exeter is possible. The garden is gravelled with plants and shrubs but not suitable for infants. There is no front gate. The drive exits straight onto the road.
