Located in the charming village of Gourgé in the Deux-Sèvres department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region in western France, this two-storey Gite is just located 10 minute drive from the ancient town of Parthenay. This charming, large, stone-built Farmhouse dating from the early 1700s, originally a Dairy Farm, (newly decorated throughout) easily accommodates up to 11 adults, with extra bunkbeds for children on request. There is even enough room to put up tents in the private garden. Gourgé is situated within 40km of the Loire-Anjou-Touraine regional natural park. The village is located on one of the Compostela routes, which means pilgrims can often be seen walking or cycling through the village. It is also the starting point for a number of cycle and walking routes along the Thouet valley. La Petite Ferme: If you love traditional French rustic charm with a modern twist, you will love La Petite Ferme. The bedrooms: All newly decorated in a calming rustic style. All bedrooms are light and airy – with fans for the summer and central heating for the winter. Bedroom one – is a family room (one double bed and 2 single beds) that overlooks the picturesque 9th-century church. Bedroom two – is a double room with views overlooking the patio area and extensive cottage garden. Bedroom three - is a large family room (a double bed and one single) with plenty of space for two children or adults happy to share. It overlooks a quiet lane that runs along the side of the property. The House: The spacious lounge on the first floor overlooks the ninth-century church, Eglise Saint-Hilaire, a popular destination for both visitors and locals alike with regular church services. The farmhouse has two open fireplaces in the lounge and dining room for guests to enjoy, and the spacious kitchen is fully equipped. A large cool and airy dining room leads off the kitchen with a view out to the garden. The kitchen comes with a large kitchen Island, dishwasher, fridge-freezer, coffee maker and large range cooker, plus all cooking utensils. La Petite Ferme is full of character and charm, with plenty of space. It is ideal for families as it is self-contained with walls running along the length of the garden area and gates that can be closed and locked. Pets allowed subject to owners discretion. The Garden: There is ample outside space at La Petite Ferme, with many quirky spaces to relax, including a hidden patio, a large barn for sheltered alfresco dining, and an outside lounge area with pergola perfect for sitting around the fire-pit in the evenings or grabbing a little shade between dips in the pool. The front patio is ideal for early morning breakfasts, casual brunches, and of course for savouring the last rays of sunshine as the day draws to a close. There are two bathrooms in the farmhouse, one on the ground floor and one between two of the bedrooms (shared en suite). The in-ground pool is fully heated. At night the atmosphere at night is truly magical with both the pool and garden lit up to enable al fresco dining. On-site Activities: For the duration of your stay, the entire house is exclusively yours. There are several outdoor games available to you, including swing ball, badminton, boules and croquet. We will be there to meet you upon arrival and answer any questions you might have, but then you’ll be left to enjoy your stay – unless you need us, of course, and then we’re merely a stone’s throw away at the end of the road. The Village and Surrounding Area: Gourgé is situated within 40km of the Loire-Anjou-Touraine regional natural park. The village sits between the larger village of St Loup Lamaire and the town of Parthenay, with many historic villages and local markets close by. It is a great place to completely relax and get away from the bustle of city life. Great food, great wine, and nothing to do but visit local markets, read books, play games, or swim in the pool. As well as the onsite pool, there are several lakes and larger swimming pools nearby which are open from July to September. La Petite Ferme is nestled in the centre of the village, just a minute’s walk to the village shop which stocks all necessities and more besides! You can purchase your bread and croissants from here, delivered fresh each morning, as well as any other essentials you might need and a postcard or two. The local restaurant, Petite Marmite, is a little treasure and opens at 8am daily, closing only when the last customer leaves. Valerie and Patou create a fantastic, rustic French menu with a daily plat du jour for a bargain price of around €13. They also run several events throughout the year, attracting many of the locals who come and sit in the village square to listen to music or watch a film outside of the church. The ancient, fortified town of Parthenay is only 12km away from the commune and boasts an atmospheric medieval quarter and castle. Every July, Parthenay hosts the Festival Ludique International de Parthenay, otherwise known as the Festival de Jeux or FLIP, during which the town’s streets and squares are filled with games and interactive fun! The Fête de la Musique is also held on June 21st every year and has now expanded to fill the whole month of June. This annual free music festival takes place throughout France, with performances of all kinds, from classical music, choirs, hip hop, jazz, orchestral and pop, taking place outside, as well as in bars and restaurants.
