Cosy Cumbrian Cottage - Ideal Base - Self-Catering
Close to the Lake District, Hadrian's Wall, Gretna and the Scottish Borders, explore all day and come home to a log fire and hot bath in this stylish cottage. We provide a few essential items; don't forget to stock up on some local food and drink before you settle down for the evening - or sample the local hospitality! This space is ideal for couples and we allow babes in arms, (no stair-gates). You'll need to bring a travel cot. Unable to accommodate pets. Free street parking. Self check-in. From the street, this terraced cottage may appear ordinary. However, it's a bit of an illusion. Step through the front door and it's a different world. It's a traditional and stylish space with a log burner, comfortable sofa and smart TV and DVD player. Pick up one of the books or maps and plan your next adventure. Through to the kitchen, and you'll find a selection of cooking equipment and crockery; a modern oven and hob, fridge (no freezer), microwave, small washing machine and slimline dishwasher. Eat your meal at the table overlooking the rear yard or make the most of any nice weather by dining at the outdoor table and chairs. There is also a stable door if you can't decide whether you want to be in or out. There's also a handy outside toilet. Although our bin is located beyond the yard gate, the surrounding gardens belong to our neighbours. Upstairs you will find a spacious bathroom with roll top bath and full height shower. Across the landing is the attractive and comfortable king size bedroom with a notable historic feature - extremely long floorboards which stretch from the bathroom door to the bedroom window. Our cottage has just finished an extensive refurbishment and is now ready to receive guests once again. SAFETY NOTE - Low headroom in some areas - No stair gates - Steep staircase - Unsuitable for people with reduced mobility - The water can be very hot - Please do not flush sanitary items/wipes down the toilet - Please do not pour fat down the drain - Paved rear yard could be slippery when wet - Wood burner is hot to touch when lit and please be careful not to overfill with logs as the glass might break - Smoke alarm and Carbon Monoxide alarm tested regularly You'll gain access via a coded key storage box and you'll also be able to gain access into the rear yard from kitchen. The code for key safe will be sent via AirBnb message on the day of your arrival. I no longer live in the area unfortunately, however I have a team of people on hand to help should you require anything during your stay. We want to make your stay in the cottage as perfect as possible. Please be respectful of our neighbour who you may meet whilst in the back yard. They are very friendly and will say hello but please try and keep your distance during your stay to mitigate against Covid 19 infections even if you have had your vaccinations. I have three guidebooks at the moment so be sure to check them out on my profile, please let me know if you would like me to add or amend any of my recommendations to improve the experience for future guests! It's a lovely neighbourhood, there's plenty of shops and takeaways but it still maintains the country town feel. The Cottage is only 10 minutes from Carlisle and barely 5 minutes off the M6. Gretna Green is a short drive away and the cottage is centrally located to access many of the North West's top tourist and adventure hotspots. The buses run frequently along the main road but the Cottage itself is a little over a half an hour drive from most tourist attractions, the Lake District, Hadrian's Wall, Kielder Forest, Gretna Green, the Scottish Borders and many more! This is a self-catering property. No meals are provided and you will need to bring your own provisions. We like to leave a few starter items such as milk and bread, (items may change subject to availability). The cottage heating and hot water can be controlled remotely by your hosts but can also be overridden by you during your stay. If you need any help with this please just message the team. In the kitchen there is a dedicated coffee area with a V60 and a Chemex. Whilst we don't allow pets, our little dog has stayed there once or twice and so therefore the cottage may not be suitable for anyone allergic to dogs. The bedding is hypoallergenic and we are always looking for ways to reduce our carbon footprint and become more eco-conscious. Recycling can be left in the outside toilet.
