Garden House is situated in the middle of picturesque Netherbury, a quiet rural village. It is the perfect base for exploring the local area by foot or travelling along the stunning Dorset coast. The self contained cottage has everything you need to relax and get away from it all. Although petite in dimensions the separate kitchen, dining and living room give plenty of space to kick back and relax and outside there is a sunny private courtyard garden that comes alive with fairy lights at night. Guests have their own entrance, parking area and private sunny courtyard garden, it is fenced off and perfect for dogs. We politely request that our garden is not accessed as we have children and our own dog (a labrador retriever). He is extremely friendly and a bit soft, so he can be nervous around dogs he doesn't know. Please always put your dog on a lead when going to and from the property to your car. Netherbury is a wonderful village, we moved here a few years ago and have never looked back. The people are friendly, there is a walking distance pub (less than a mile) and an abundance of good walks and fine views all around. It's a truly vibrant village with a strong sense of community. I am sure you will find everyone you meet helpful and proud to show you where we call home. We are also famously known for our village Open Gardens held on the second weekend in June where the whole village comes alive with ticketed access to a variety of manicured gardens all around the village. There is afternoon tea, our famous tombola and excellent lunches. A weekend not to be missed, just turn up and join in! Within 20-30 minutes slow walking time (or 5 mins drive) you can reach Beaminster where you will find independent shops such as the baker, butcher, fruit & 2 veg, Cilla and Camilla for clothing, cookware and their excellent in house cafe, plus a handy open all hours supermarket Co-op with chilled beer & wine. Beaminster has two great restaurants Brassica and The Ollerod being notable for their excellent food and service But do please book ahead! Plus you will find fish & chips, Chinese and Indian there too. Most of all Netherbury is an excellent base for exploring the Jurassic coast (West Bay, Lyme Regis, Charmouth & Hive Beach to name a few) and of course the bustling market town of Bridport. Bridport has twice weekly markets on Wednesdays and Saturdays with antiques, craft and food. There is often a band playing outside and you won't be spoilt for choice for cafe's and pubs. We recommend Leakers Bakery, Soulshine Cafe, The Bull Hotel, Stable Pizza and The Electric Palace (films and shows) as just a couple of places to be explored. Netherbury has lost most of its public transport over the years, but there are still some infrequent buses mainly at the weekend. Times can be viewed from the bus stop/shelter just a 2 minute stroll from our house. From the main bus depot in Bridport you can travel all along the coast on the Jurassic Coaster double decker which is quite a fun day out, getting on and off as you like. For the most part you will need a car to get around. There are plenty of walks from the doorstep but many more along cliff paths and areas of outstanding natural beauty further afield. Bring a walkers map if you can, a selection of maps are provided at the property for guests to use during their stay. Please note the bedroom is in the loft and space is compromised around the bed itself where the ceiling is angled. Meaning it can be a bit of a squeeze on one side, but that's all part of the charm of this tiny home. The room does feel airy and my 6ft husband has no problem standing up in the middle of the bedroom. There is limited storage compromising of a low level hanging rail, 2 bedside tables with 3 small drawers each and a chair. You can store bags and other items under the stairs in a purpose built cupboard. The round feature window does not open, but an externally vented air conditioning unit is provided to keep the space cool, it can also act as a dehumidifier. The stairs are not suitable for the frail or unsteady, they go around the corner and there is a half step on the bend. We advise you go up and down the stairs carefully and use the rope handrail. Dogs please are to remain in the downstairs living area and not on the bed.
