Hawkesbury River Hide Out
The Hawkesbury River Hide Out is located at Bar Point and is accessible by boat only. There are NO ROADS and NO CARS at Bar Point with the shack set in native bush land only 50 metres back from the Hawkesbury River. You can catch a water taxi over, bring or hire your own boat from Brooklyn and tie up at our jetty. Spend the weekend fishing off the jetty, canoeing on the river, eating oysters and escaping the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The cottage itself is a basic little river shack. It is very charming and has everything you need to enjoy a few days away from the world. We are artists and musicians and live here about half of the year. We enjoy our space being basic, relaxed, eclectic and with a cute vintage charm that fits into the natural environment. We hope you enjoy these things about our place too! There is one bedroom with a queen sized futon bed and the living room has a mattress for an extra guest. The kitchen is fully equipped, minus a dishwasher and microwave. Two items that we don't believe are necessary. The bathroom has a shower and bath and is set outside in a charming little building up a set of beautiful sandstone steps that are set into a large sandstone boulder. The back yard is full of ancient sandstone boulders and native grass trees. We only have access to rainwater, which has an inbuilt filter and is beautiful to drink, but we ask that you are mindful of water consumption and only use what you need. There is no hot water in the kitchen, but to us, this is part of the charm. We simply boil the kettle for washing up. We have wi-fi but there is no phone reception at the house. There is a landline for emergency and you can get phone reception at the jetty also. You can hire a boat from Brooklyn Marina where you can putt over on a tinny without having a boat license. Or you can catch the Brooklyn water taxi or take the mail ferry which operates once a day during week days, excluding public holidays. Jump off the jetty and swim, bush walk or just sit on the veranda and drink wine and eat oysters. You will feel like you have stepped back in time at the Hide Away and discover that it is the perfect pace to relax and let go of the busy outside world. Guests can access the whole place we can answer any questions you may have regarding transport, access etc. Bar Point is surrounded by national park and of course sits on the river and is breaming with native flora and fauna. There are no roads and no cars. It really is hard to believe that we are only an hour north of Sydney. Bar Point is accessed from either Brooklyn or Mooney Mooney or Kangaroo Point. You can hire a boat from Brooklyn or you can catch the riverboat Postman ferry which leaves once daily during the week (not operational on weekends) from Brooklyn at 10am and leaves Bar Point at 11am You can also catch a water taxi for about $90 each way from Brooklyn. The taxi seats up to 8 ppl. We will email you detailed instructions and info regarding hiring boats, the riverboat postman, water taxi or bringing your own boat upon booking enquiries. Access to our place is by boat only. Please send me a message with any questions you may have regarding transport options. There are plenty of options!
