Birkhead is one of the finest houses in Troutbeck occupying a picture postcard setting with breathtaking views in every direction. This beautifully decorated ground floor apartment is perfect for a peaceful getaway, ideal for walkers. Birkhead is situated in the heart of Troutbeck. There is a lovely tearoom and village shop just minutes away. There are 2 great pubs in the village, the Mortal Man, a short walk away and the newly refurbished Queens Head, both offering great food and local ales. Once outside the front door you are straight onto the weaving footpaths leading to the spectacular fells. You enter the property through the delightful sunroom which offers panoramic views across the neighbouring fells. The sun room has a cosy log burner and offers sumptuous furnishings and a dining area over looking the garden and fells. The sun room leads straight out onto the patio, a perfect place to catch the early morning sun and enjoy a coffee. There is a large lawned area and a well stocked garden with extensive shrubs including many colourful azaleas and mature rhododendrons. The sun room leads to the hall way with beautiful parquet flooring. There are two charming double bedrooms off the hallway both with antique wooden beds and luxury bedding. One of the bedrooms offers an ensuite bathroom with shower. There is an additional family bathroom with bath and overhead shower. Both the bathrooms offer the luxury of underfloor heating. The kitchen offers all you will need including tea and coffee. Should you require dinner at any time during your stay a 3 course meal menu is available. You will be served your meal in the sun room overlooking the magnificent views, perfect for any occasion. Troutbeck is a string of hamlets within a conservation area and includes National Trust properties such as Townend. It is renowned for its numerous listed buildings and vernacular architecture. It retains many of its 17th and 18th century buildings. The local church is a few minutes stroll away and was constructed in 1736 on the same site as a 15th century chapel, rebuilt in the 16th century. Like many other churches it was renovated by the Victorians who retained the tower and added arts and crafts windows. It boasts unusual pre-raphaelite stained glass. Farms in the area raise Herdwick sheep. Troutbeck Park Farm was purchased by Beatrix Potter in 1928 for that purpose and these sheep can still be found in the fields surrounding Birkhead. Troutbeck is ideally situated 3 miles north of the picturesque town of Windermere and a further mile from the lake shores of Bowness-on-Winderemere and all its visitor attractions. The vibrant town of Ambleside is only 3.5 miles away, offering many unique shops and a plethora of pubs and restaurants. The area offers Michelin star dining along side cosy pubs and cafes. Own transport is recommended. There is a bus service a short walk away but the buses only run during the day and are every 2 hours.
