Chalet La Gentiane de Gryon

This lovely chalet boasts soaring ceilings, welcoming atmosphere and mountain views. Spacious interiors with cosy wood fire, and balconies for outdoor dining in summer, set in a quiet group of chalets with generous shared outdoor space - a mini-toboggan run in winter and a wooded stream for summer play - perfect for families and groups. Local amenities (bakery, grocers, cafes, ski-hire and tourist info) are minutes away. A blissfully peaceful spot - not suitable for parties. Chalet La Gentiane de Gryon is a spacious chalet in a quiet location overlooking the Rhone valley across to the magnificent Les Dents de Midi. Downstairs in the main chalet is the open plan living area with TV and wifi, balconies along two sides directly, with dining area and kitchen, plus a twin-bunk bed room and shower/bathroom. Upstairs is a double bedroom also with balcony and views, a bunkbed room for two and bathroom and single mezzanine bedroom. Additional bedrooms and bathroom are located at lower ground level with double bedroom, second bedroom with 3 single beds plus shower room. The lower ground offers privacy to those using it since it has its own separate entrance. The lower ground floor (sleeping 5 people) is not accessible from inside the main chalet, and is accessed via an outdoor pathway. Please note this is not a suitable location for parties or very noisy groups - please don't book if this doesn't sound suitable for you. Large groups please note the dining area (indoors/winter) seats 10 people. The listing price of CHF300 per night is based on 6 people staying in the chalet. If your group is larger you are most welcome, there will be a modest additional fee of CHF5 per person per night to accommodate additional linen and cleaning fees. Thank you! Villars-Gryon is a superb location for holiday making in winter or summer. The region has spectacular skiing and winter sports accessible within minutes. For absolute beginners there is an easy ski run and magic carpet lift - no ski pass required - located at Frience, a short walk/drive up from the chalet. For the more experienced skier the multitude of blue and red runs covering the rest of the mountains are accessible via T-bar lift from Frience also, or via the Barboleuse Gondola, 5-10 mins down the hill by car (plenty of free parking outside the ski lift) or via the free ski-bus which passes the chalet's doorstep every 20 minutes (you just flag it down). For the more adventurous, the glacier at Les Diablerets is also accessible with "incredible off-piste terrain with 2,000-metre verticals from top to bottom" (Guardian newspaper - 2017) In summer there are local hikes to the beautiful river at Solalex, picturesque local villages such as Taveyanne, or up into the hills via telecabine. There is lots to discover in the area, from the beauty of the protected flowers and fauna in the summer, to the local wines, cheeses and cultural festivals. Outdoor sports in the summer include cycling (road and mountain), climbing and swimming. Your summer access pass (available for all tourists) gets you access to the telacabines as well as gratis pedal-free mountain bike hire for summer downhill fun. The local region of Gryon in Vaud is a very peaceful and welcoming area of outstanding beauty. The chalet is one of a small group approximately 5/10 min drive from nearby shops and restaurants, in the heart of the mountains. Its is very tranquil. In winter a car is the easiest way to get to and from nearby ski runs and telecabines, all within a few minutes' drive. Being a short distance from the pistes means you have ample space to relax and spend quality time together. Snow tyres/chains are always advisable in snowy or icy conditions on the mountains. In summer this area can be explored on foot, using the telecabins and trains (all free in summer with your free access card, and in winter free with ski-pass/Magic Pass). To get to local villages and towns you can drive, take the free Gryon bus service or make use of the tram to Villars, the nearest town. You can reach the chalet by car or public transport. In winter, 4X4 or snow chains are essential for driving. Excellent public transport links from Geneva via train to Bex and then bus to Gryon. Please note that the indoors dining table in the chalet seats 10 people, so dinner for large parties in winter will be for 2 sittings! There is tableware (cutlery, plates, glasses etc) for up to 12 people but the dining area is restricted to 10 persons.
