Cairngorms Dog Friendly Cottage, Maredo House
Dog, sighthound and child friendly holiday cottage in the Cairngorms National Park. Entire quiet cottage & enclosed garden overlooking Tomintoul's village green. Fully equipped, warm & comfortable, the fresh modern interior offers a space to relax. A stroll away from gentle walks, country pubs & restaurants, yet the perfect base to explore wild & remote landscapes & beaches, the Snow Road, Castles, Royal Deeside & more. Superking or single beds with fresh linen ensure you a good nights sleep. The house has lockbox key entry and folders explaining the house workings and the local area, things to see and do, but there is always someone available, just a phone call away. There will be tea, coffee, sugar, milk and soya milk, bread, eggs, butter and vegan margarine, jam and shortbread for when you first arrive. The kitchen will also have all the basics such as salt, pepper, herbs, balsamic vinegar, olive oil, washing up liquid, cloths and brush etc. The bathroom has organic eco liquid hand soap, a shower stool, bathmat and safety hand grip. Please note that each bedroom can be arranged to suit your requirements as either two superking beds or four generous singles or a superking and two singles. Just let us know what you would prefer. For young children there is a small separate room but no cot or child bedding as most folks use their own travel cots. There is a children's highchair, plates & cutlery, books, dvds and games. Stairgates are available. For dogs there are different sizes of plastic dog bed with pillows and throws, large dog cushions, towels, raised feeders & poobags. The garden is specifically designed for dogs and to keep them safe. There is high fencing around with secure gates, shrubs to sniff and a non precious grassed area. Just across the road is the beginning of two short walks popular with dog owners, part of the Tomintoul Circular Path through the wading bird breeding ground. Short drives away are many miles of usually deserted, remote forest tracks and walks, free from others for dog walking, particularly beneficial for rescue, timid or reactive dogs. The whole house and garden, with an off road parking space, is available for the use of guests. The owner or their representative are always available. Living only a few miles away, are happy to help if needed. In the village is a Post Office and general store, cafes, shops, gallery, a dog friendly traditional rustic pub & restaurant with log fire, whisky shop, museum, visitor and discovery centre, and a weekly visit from an excellent Fish & Chip van! There is a children's adventure play area in the woods, bowling green & tennis courts. The RSPB birdhide overlooks the breeding ground for oystercatchers,curlews, lapwings and plovers. The Snow Road takes you through the best scenic driving roads in Scotland and through Ballater and Braemar. Nearby there are extensive walks for all abilities, the Speyside Way, the Glenlivet Mountain Bike Trail Centre & Cafe for all abilities, golf, fishing, the Lecht Ski & Adventure Centre and Scalan's hidden seminary. There is plenty of wildlife to spot including, red and roe deer, red squirrels, brown and mountain hares. A car is essential for getting to Tomintoul and around the Cairngorms. There are many local car hire firms. Nearest airports: Inverness @ 62 miles, Aberdeen @ 60 miles. Nearest Railway Stations: Dufftown@ 18 miles, Keith @27 miles, Aviemore @ 27 miles, Huntly @ 30 miles, Elgin @ 37 miles and Inverness @ 48 miles. Driving Distances: from Edinburgh,120 mile, from Glasgow, 166 miles, from Inverness,48 miles. Check in after 4 pm. Check out by 10am please.
