Tiny romantic tower on the hills of Florence
Think of a tiny charming ancient tower, embedded in a time into a small XIX century tuscan villa on the florentine hills. Think of a romantic place for a couple, with a bedroom and a living room which opens onto a breathtaking terrace in the countryside, with a bathroom and a tiny kitchen. Also think that in 20 minutes drive you are into Florence downtown. Well, this is the place! To get all this you have to climb three flights of stairs with no lift. But you'll see it surely worth the effort. No one can say exactly how old the tower is. Certainly it underwent transformations at various times, gradually embedded in the building environment. Maybe at the beginning it was one of the guard towers of the nearby castle called "Torre Rossa". The place is easy to find with a GPS, However, is located at the highest point of the street whose name, translated into English, sounds something like "sharp edged hill". It is easily recognizable for two beautiful plants of jasmine on either side of the door. There is a very large car park on the opposite side of the road. Sometimes some of our guests with particularly large vans, have preferred to park at a nearby public parking. The entrance is on the second floor of the building. The street entrance and staircase are shared with two other apartments on the ground floor and first floor We live in the building of which the tower is part. This allows us to be quite flexible for check in and out. Just knock the door for any need or information. We are there. Or just call on the mobile in the case no one is at home. San Gersolè is a very ancient village on the florentine hills. At a few steps from the Torretta building you'' find the small Middle-ages church of San Peter in Jerusalem, built along the road that, starting from Florence, leads to the Sanctuary situated in the town of Impruneta, 6 km away from San Gersolè. After the church you'll see a huge willa with a red tower, named "Torre rossa", "red tower" in fact. An ancient Middle-Ages castle of the Alberti Family was transformed into the Villa in 1800. You still can see trace of the walls along a nice walk on "Via di Naldino". Our "Torretta" was probably a watchtower on the northern side of the same defense system. The Torretta is quite close to downtown, just 20 minutes drive from the very center of Florence. At Porta Romana, the southern gate of the town walls there is a fee parking where you can easily and safely leave your car and walk to Ponte Vecchio in ten minutes. Though there is a bus service at walking distance from the house, we strongly suggest to have an your own car so to be free from bus schedule (every one or two hours from 8 AM to 8 PM) and enjoy the sorroundings: Siena, Pisa and Arezzo, just to make an example, can be reached in less tha an hour. We're quite close to A1 highway exits Firenze Sud and Impruneta.
