Shepherd's Hut in a beautiful spot in Dorset
Our Shepherd's Hut has wonderful unspoilt views across the Dorset countryside in a quiet secluded spot on our small farm. The refurbished traditional shepherd's hut is fully insulated and has a cosy log stove with wood provided and it's own en suite and kitchenette with a gas BBQ and fire pit . Decking connects the hut to the en suite and kitchenette. An awning along one side of the hut provides a sheltered area for cooking on the BBQ and storing outdoor equipment. I refurbished the shepherd's hut in 2009 and I often use it in the spring during the lambing season so I can keep an eye on the flock. I have recently added a separate block containing an en suite with shower, basin and toilet and a separate kitchenette with decking and an awning connecting the two. The surrounding woods are amazing in the spring with thousands of bluebells, wild garlic and wood anemones. The hut has a double bed and a log fire, is well insulated and the log burner is very efficient which keeps the hut very warm, making stays possible all year round. Bed linen provided. It is lit by very good LED lighting powered by a 12 volt battery. Outside there is a double burner gas BBQ and a log pit. There is a small charge of £5 for logs for the fire pit but logs for the wood burner are free of charge. Basic cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery are provided. The hut is in a very quiet spot in a field, which is accessible by most cars unless it is very wet in which case we ask you to park on the hard standing in front of our house and walk,it's not very far. There are lovely walks into the woods in front of the hut and good walks into the thatched village of Milton Abbas which is a must. The village has a good pub and a post office. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any queries. The thatched village of Milton Abbas is half a mile away has a good pub,The Hambro Arms.At the far end of the village is the very impressive Milton Abbey set in grounds landscaped by Capability Brown. The village post office sells a few basic essentials. Steepton Bill farm shop is very well stocked . The area is very rural so you will need a car to get here.Is a great area for road and off-road cycling and walking. If you wish to pitch a tent near the hut this can be accommodated on request. Outdoor shoes and a torch are advisable.
