The Rabbit Warren is a romantic hillside retreat for couples and an optional dog. Warren Bach “Small Warren” is located close to the grade 2 listed village of Maentwrog, a location where the mountains of Snowdonia meet the spectacular coastline of North West Wales. Warren Bach is a wonderful space offering comfort and containment for wet and windy evenings in front of the wood burner, and breath-taking views of the Moelwyn Mountains across the Vale of Ffestiniog on those bright and clear days. Your space comprises an open plan kitchen , diner lounge with a comfy large sofa, rustic, well-appointed kitchen and quirky spiral staircase leading to a double bedroom with en-suite shower room, this inviting space is the perfect base for exploring the many wonders of Snowdonia. You have all the comforts of home, but we deliberately unplugged Warren Bach from the TV, there is however full WI-FI so bring your devices to access Netflix and the like. We have also provided a 6.5 metre square secure lock up for your bikes and wet and dirty boots clothes in a separate lockable unit next door. We have installed a water butt at the end of the building , feel free to use to wash your bikes , boots, dog etc You'll have access to the whole of Warren Bach and the lockup adjoining it for you bikes and muddy stuff and your bags once you have unpacked for your stay. We do access another outbuilding next to Warren Bach and occasionally access the garage in the same building. We would love to meet you, but we also value your privacy, we are located just a little further up the hill unless we are away ourselves Access is a key via a lockbox planted on the log-store to the left of the front door so no need to panic if you are arriving late. Please park in front of the log store after unloading so we can access the other outbuildings Staying right where you are - Warren Bach is in the Vale of Ffestiniog and faces the wonderful Moelwyn Bach, sit outside with and cuppa or something stronger and you can watch the steam train go by on the opposite side of the valley. Walking – the local area has an abundance of coastal, riverside & woodland walks & mountain hikes. Snowdon is a short drive if you want to join the crowds, although we prefer our local Moelwynion mountains which are just as spectacular, but without the company. Biking - The area is a mecca for mountain biking with world class mountain bike trails at Coed - y - Brenin 9 miles away, Antur Stiniog’s downhill trails at Llechwedd in Blaenau Ffestiniog 6 miles away, Penmachno MTB trails 12 miles away, then further afield (around an hour’s drive) are Revolution Bike Park in Llangynog 35 miles away, Llandegla Forest 45 miles away and Nant - yr Arian trails 56 miles away towards Aberystwyth. For road cycling there are amazing views and challenging riding from your doorstep, or gentle pedalling available along the sublime Mawddach estuary 18 miles to the south with a pit stop for great ale and pub fare at a the George III Hotel at Penmaenpool, near Dolgellau. On the Water - The National White Water Centre at Treweryn just outside Bala is but 18 miles away, Bala Lake (Llyn Tegid) is just beyond there with facilities for canoeing, kayaking, rock climbing, sailing etc. Similar activities are available at Llyn Pardarn 25 miles away and Trawsfynydd Lake is just up the road for fishing. There are plenty of adventure groups to take you guided Canyoning through ancient rainforests near by. Beaches - Explore the long sandy beaches at Harlech and Porthmadog , or the beautiful seaside cove village at Borth Y Gest. There are coves and beaches aplenty across the Llyn Peninsular (Abersoch, Nefyn, Whistling Sands), so you may just need a book another stay to take them all in. Days out - Local attractions include The National Trust’s Bodnant Gardens, the Italianate village of Portmeirion, castles galore and steam trains aplenty. For those who covet adrenalin based activities, all three Zip World attractions are based between a 15 minute and a 1 hour drive away and Betws-y-Coed is an outdoor enthusiasts heaven. Eating & Drinking - There are two pubs in Maentwrog serving traditional pub grub and great ales and just a short drive away are great gastro pubs such as Y Sgwar in Tremadog, Dylan's in Criccieth, The Hebog in Beddgelert and dining at the Portmeirion Hotel and Castell Deudreath. We also love our independent cafes, The Eating Gorilla in Penrhyndeudraeth (4miles away) is a vegan café serving great food and take away and Y Garreg Siop a Caffi (4 miles away) is great for homemade ethically sourced dining, also vegan friendly and happens to be close to one of our favourite pubs, Y Ring. Finally, remote, not isolated... Porthmadog is a 12 minute drive and has many independent shops , but also a Tesco, Aldi and Lidl for supplies. To get here you really do need a car (or motor bike), but once you're here you can walk or cycle for miles.
