CAN TILLET - Isolated Gite Rural.

2 bed cottage with private pool on farm in the Pyrenees.Located in the Haute Vallespir, the gite is situated on an organic sheep farm / Arabian Horse Stud just outside the village of La Bastide. Perfect for walkers, cyclists and nature lovers. Please note the pool is open May to September only. The farm covers 450 hectares and the gite, which is adjacent to the farmhouse is just over 2km from the (not very busy) main road. The pool is 10m long and over 5m wide with a maximum depth of 1.2m. It is situated on a sunny, secluded terrace which looks down the valley to the sea - 45km distant. There are over 450 Ha to explore. Two abandoned mines, Three ruined Mas (farmhouses) and over 200 Ha of woodland. You will need a reasonable level of fitness - the land rises from about 600m to 1350m altitude. The land is rich in wildlife. Wild Boar, Roe Deer, Izard and Hares. Depending on the season you can spot Eagles, Vultures and Hawks along with Partridge, Pheasants and many other birdlife. We are usually around at the adjacent Farmhouse. Our aim is to enable guests to enjoy living at Mas Tillet as much as we do - in their own way. The Mas and Gite are constructed in traditional Catalan style. The village of La Bastide ( population 100) is 3km distant. It has a small bistro/Cafe. The village has a very active "comite de fetes" which organizes a calendar of village party's throughout the year. Access is via a 2km dirt road which can be difficult in bad weather. There is no practical public transport that serves the village or the farm. the nearest town Ceret is a 1 hour drive away. There is a limited Epicerie and Post Office in St Marsal which is 15 minutes away. The last part of the access is by a a farm track. This protects us from traffic. It is usually perfectly navigable by a normal car - but you have to go steady ! There is wifi in the Gite - its ok for emails and limited web access but is too slow for movie downloads etc.
