Historic Talisman House

Welcome to historic Talisman House. Built in the late 1800's for the Talisman mine manager, this Grand Old Lady is now our family home. We have a teenager, a toddler, three cats and a goat. Perfect for a couples getaway or a family holiday, with an extra large room and a large section for the children to play. For your entertainment we have a swimming pool (in summer), pool table, dartboard and a large selection of movies. We also have a trampoline and paddling pool for our younger guests. Situated in the beautiful Karangahake Gorge we are in the midst of many popular tourist destinations and a plethora of historic places. If you enjoy fly fishing, swimming, hiking, wining and dining, surfing, exploring or bush walking, then this is the place for you...we have all of this and more right on our doorstep. Paeroa, home of the famous L&P bottle is a three minute drive away, and Waihi, home of the Martha Gold Mine is just at the other end of the scenic Karangahake Gorge, 15 minutes away. Between the two, we have the Ohinemuri River, Walking trails, Owharoa Falls, Waikino Tavern, the Victoria Battery, Ohinemuri Winery, and many historic places of interest. Bring a bike or hire one and cycle the Hauraki Rail Trail. Catch a trout in the Waitawheta or Ohinemuri rivers. We are able to accomodate any size family. We have two rooms available, 1 room is upstairs, each room has a queen bed and a single bed. Beds can be added or removed per request. Our guests have access to our upstairs bar/games area, all living areas in the house and the entire section inclusive of the swimming pool (in summer) and the trampoline. A continental breakfast is supplied. Guests can have as much or as little privacy as they'd like. We are happy to spend time together in the lounge, bar or by the pool. Mackaytown is a friendly, close community, with the feel of a small village. Your own vehicle is recommended as we are in a rural area. We are attempting to restore this grand old lady to her former glory. As such, we have unfinished projects from time to time, at the moment we are building another bathroom upstairs. This will in no way interfere with your stay, we only carry on with work when we don't have guests.
