Escape the heat of the midday sun under the shade of our living relic, a magnificent ancient olive tree believed to be over 600 years old! Keep in touch with family and friends with complimentary access to fast fibre optic Wifi, available in all areas of the property. Here in Cumieira you can experience true Portuguese rustic living so don’t be surprised if you bump into one of the local shepherds herding their sheep whilst you’re out walking in the village! Explore the numerous delightful river beaches, which are dotted around the area or alternatively head out to the coast, an easy 50 minute drive to the breathtaking silver coast. For the more active and adventurous there are an abundance of hiking/mountain bike trails and plenty of historical sites to discover in the region. You won’t need to go far to enjoy typical traditional Portuguese food as there are plenty of excellent, reasonably priced restaurants within easy reach. Although the village is set in a quiet, rural location, major road links to the larger towns and cities like Coimbra, Porto, Lisbon, Aveiro, Tomar and Fatima are easily accessed, helping you to get as much sightseeing out of your trip as you can. If you are looking for a group or large family holiday, our apartments are perfect for this as they give you both the opportunity to be together and to be independent. We are happy to negotiate on rates when three or more apartments are booked for your group/family for the same weeks. You will have use of the swimming pool, the communal BBQ area the upper garden and lower courtyard garden with shaded seating/dining areas and all common areas. Our apartments are on a self-catering basis. Each apartment is equipped with a washing machine and a dishwasher. Parking is plentiful, safe and adjacent. All apartments are thoroughly cleaned before arrival and we clean the apartments on a weekly basis, when they are occupied. Brushes, mops and buckets etc, are available in each apartment for your personal use. We exchange towels on request and bed linen is changed also on a weekly basis. Apartamentos e Jardims de Florenca are in a small working village named Cumieira which is a village typical of this part of Portugal. The village comprises of a nursery and infant schools, a Mother Church dated from the 15th century complete with time chimes, a day centre for the elderly, a bar which doubles up as a restaurant at lunch time and finally a cemetery. As far as we know we are the only non-Portuguese in the entire village. The property is detached and is a corner plot. The accommodation exists over two floors and the property is fully walled and gated. All apartments face the gardens at the rear of the property. A double gated entrance exists at the front of the property directly into the courtyard garden, from where all apartments can be accessed. A second entrance is available via a single gate on the East elevation which takes you directly into the upper garden, again all apartments can be accessed from here. There is a flight of stairs connecting both garden areas. There are exciting water theme parks in both Pombal and Castenheira de Pera, both can be reached within a 30 minute car journey. The area is blessed with many rivers and river beaches (Praia Fluvials) and more information on these is available within the apartments. Relatively inexpensive family orientated restaurants, exist in abundance in this part of Portugal and can make regular dining out an enjoyable part of your stay with us.Again there is plenty of information about these in the apartments and we are only too happy to advise and assist with the language, booking of taxi's etc. We are a comfortable 50 minutes drive from some of the best beaches on the West coast. Our location is rural but certainly not isolated and we are only a 5 minute drive from Avelar, for supermarkets, hot food takeaways, a hospital, post office, restaurants, pharmacy, hairdressers, beauty salons and essentially all things associated with everyday living. The historic town of Penela is a 15 minute drive, as is Ansião. We are within 30 minutes drive from major railway stations at Coimbra B and Pombal….Train or road journeys to either Porto or Lisbon are achievable within 90 minutes travelling time. The historic cities of Tomar, Fatima and Coimbra are more like 40 minutes. Unfortunately, public transport in the immediate area is very infrequent so a car is really essential. Local companies offer a relatively inexpensive reliable taxi service and many of the drivers also speak English. ADDITIONAL GUESTS. Although listed as a one bedroomed apartment that sleeps two, we have a number of high quality full size (90x200) foldaway single beds that we imported from Germany. If you would like to bring another guest we only charge €12 per night extra for the use of these regardless of age of the guest. For babies and infants under the age of two, we can supply collapsible cots and high chairs free of charge.
