If you need a moment of peace and tranquillity after a long working day, come to have some relax in Verolavecchia, at the Bed & Breakfast Kiitos. Dipped in the Po's valley at just thirty minutes from artistic cities like Brescia & Cremona, and in the middle of the marvelous places rich of history and art you will find a welcoming and familiar place where you will feel like at your own home. Kiitos Holiday House is located in the center of the village, very close to the Parochial Church of St. Peter and Paul which was built in 1753. To the side, we find the highest bell tower of the Lower Brescia. Although Verolavecchia is not a town of great historical and cultural interest, it offers visitors that peace and tranquility of the classic rural village never affected by the great industry. In addition to the parish church you can visit the following places: - Villa Alghisi, the summer residence of the parents of Saint Giovanbattista Montini (Paul IV); - Very interesting is the village of Scorzarolo, ancient possession of the Dominicans of Brescia who remained here until 1798; in 1812 the latifundium became property of the Spedali Civili of Brescia; - La Ghiacciaia (The Glacier): a unique brick building with a circular plan with a nose-shaped roof and about four meters deep under the ground. In winter it was filled with snow or ice and was used to store food during the summer, but it is not to be excluded that it also had a public health service function; - La Moia: not far from the town, also in Scorzarolo, it is a typical brick building among the best made and preserved in the plain. It is a rectangular basin, one of the largest in the surrounding area, where they put the bundles of linen to macerate in water before beating, silent witness of ancient peasant gestures. - The little Church of the Madonna Delle Cave: originally dedicated to San Firmo, it assumed the current dedication following some miraculous events; some evidence of this is found in some testimonies collected in 1630. The feast of the Madonna Delle Cave is held every year, since time immemorial, on Easter day; - A few kilometers from Verolavecchia you can 'admire the unique rural village in the lower: Monticelli D'Oglio. Located on a hill on the banks of the river Oglio, in Monticelli, you can find the manor house, the parish church (dedicated to St. Sylvester), the Old Castle, and the houses of farmworkers, with arcades overlooking the large central courtyard; - Recently built is a bridge that connects the Brescia side to the Cremona side, which can be covered by bicycle or on foot; - In the immediate vicinity, it is worth visiting the village of Padernello with its castle, wrapped in the magic of the ghost of a noblewoman who died within the walls at a young age. In this Castle artistic, cultural, and culinary activities take place during the year, to offer visitors the typical dishes of Brescia cuisine.
