In the old town is the medieval castle of the Dukes of Savoy, with historical exhibitions. Near the cathedral of Chambéry, the 1838 fountain of elephants pays tribute to General Benoît de Boigne. The Museum of Fine Arts exhibits Italian works and in the south the Musée des Charmettes was the residence of Jean-Jacques Rousseau.
