Nature lovers delight - immerse yourself in the tranquility of a secluded valley, 95 acres of mature native forest - Mountain Ash, Stringybark, Blackwood, giant tree ferns, beautiful and endangered birds and animals, creeks, ponds, a river with cascades and swimming holes, and trillions of stars in the night sky. The lodge is a modern sanctuary from which to base your exploration of the property and surrounding state forest, or just relax in a sunny nook in the garden and enjoy the birdsong. Originally a warehouse on the Devonport docks, the lodge has been relocated, reconstructed and upgraded to provide unique modern accommodation. Two guest bedrooms are locate on the ground floor and one on the upper floor (stair access only). See “Other Things To Note” for booking details. All bedroom windows face north-east or north-west, maximising glorious morning and afternoon sunshine, with opening windows to let in delightful breezes and the sounds of the bush. All windows look out over an eclectic garden of cold-climate European, Asian, Mediterranean and Australian natives, providing a variety of flower and foliage colour year-round, framed by the ever-changing native forest cloaking the ridges around the valley. In the chillier months a wood fire keeps the lodge cosy and if summer heat gets too extreme there is air-conditioning. Each bedroom has an ensuite bathroom, TV with DVD player, lounge chairs, small table and fridge, should you want to retreat to your own private space to watch a different TV channel, play a DVD, or read a book. You can prepare meals at any time that suits your personal schedule, in the fully equipped communal kitchen, or cook a barbeque alfresco on the patio. Have your meal in the kitchen-dining-lounge area, sunroom, outside on the lawn, in the garden, by the pond, or pack a picnic and head to the river or forest, to surround yourself with birdsong. The laundry can be used by arrangement. You will be met on arrival. Information can be provided to help maximise the enjoyment of your stay, dependent upon your interests. You have the freedom to come and go as you please, being mindful not to disturb other guests’ enjoyment of the property also. Although it seems a world away once you're down in the valley, just 15 minutes’ drive takes you to Ulverstone's beaches, entertainment, restaurants and supermarkets. The rural town of Gawler is only 10 minutes’ drive away and has a great one-stop shop for groceries, fast food, post office and fuel. Wild Heart Lodge is the perfect base for exploring our regional attractions - penguin rookeries, caves, canyons, ranges, rivers, wineries, gardens, trails, festivals and more, are all within a short drive. Cradle Mountain and The Tarkine can each be visited within a day. Public buses service towns along the Bass Highway, Ulverstone being the nearest town to Wild Heart Lodge. If you plan to spend most of your stay exploring or relaxing at Wild Heart Lodge and won’t need a car, I can collect you from Ulverstone, Devonport Airport or the Spirit of Tasmania Ferry Terminal in Devonport, depending upon the number of people requiring transportation. Transfers must be requested when booking and confirmed several days prior to arrival. I can also take you into Ulverstone or elsewhere during your stay if I am going that way myself for any purpose. TARIFF - each bedroom sleeps 2 guests sharing a double or queen bed. If you require an additional room it is charged at the same nightly rate as the first room booked, not at a per guest rate. NIGHT EXPLORATION - is available to facilitate special interests in nocturnal wildlife. PHOTOGRAPHIC WORKSHOPS – can be arranged. WATER SUPPLY - is crystal clear natural spring water. PHONES – there is no mobile phone coverage in the valley, however a short walk up the hill will find a signal. The land-line phone is available for guests use, on request. WIFI – is available throughout the lodge via satellite but is restricted to email and internet searching only, no gaming or streaming.
