Birdwood Cottage, Gisborne South

A cosy getaway set on 10 acres and with stunning panoramic views from Mt Macedon to Mt Dandenong. Only a 35 minutes from Melbourne, this cottage is perfect for couples or friends. The house is peaceful and warm with easy access to main roads and is ideal for those wishing to explore the beauty of the Macedon Ranges. The two large bedrooms are at opposite ends of the house which has full kitchen facilities including coffee and some essential ingredients. The guest cottage is free standing with covered car parking and ramp access (not fully disabled access but suitable with assistance over one step). Limited data WiFi is provided (higher data allowance can be arranged for longer stays or at the guests' additional cost). In addition to the two bedrooms it has a cosy 'study' with an extensive library. The laundry has a front loading machine and dryer, washing powder is also provided. Each room has a unique view to stunning landscapes that are beautiful in any weather conditions. The cottage is well insulated with double glazing and an efficient wood fire and reverse cycle air conditioning for heating or cooling meaning you will be comfortable come rain or shine. We have off-road parking for two cars, which will generally be needed for travel around the area due to lack of public transport options. Taxis also operate in the area. Guests may encounter or contact the hosts but privacy is respected and guests can be entirely self-sustained if desired. A pair of Wedge-tail Eagles visit us most weeks (no guarantees). We are also visited by kangaroos and love the black cockatoos which often pass at dusk. The Macedon Ranges are renown for the awesome scenery, great walks and superb wines. The nearest winery is just a kilometre away and there are three within 8km. Walk out the back door and after a 20 minute scramble up Mt Aitken you will have uninterrupted views of Melbourne (or the clouds over it) from 510m above the Yarra. The nearest public transport is at Gisborne Station ( approximately 9 km away), V/Line trains to Melbourne run about once per hour and take about 50 minutes. Outside 'peak hour', the Melbourne CBD is a 35 minute drive. We are also just 25 minutes from Melbourne's major airport. To compliment the double glazing, north facing aspect and 6* insulation, the house has air-conditioning to counter the hot northerly winds in summer and a wood heater for cool winter nights. Additional WiFi allowance can be arranged at cost based on Telstra pre-paid rates.
