Steep yourself in history as you enjoy the character and ambiance of the fabulously presented holiday accommodation in The Old Wing at Drumhead House, Cardross. The Old Wing is a part of the Drumhead Tower House which dates from the 18th Century. The surrounding gardens and policy woodlands ensure peace and tranquillity. There’s a wild paddock where the owners keep free range chickens & bees and a pretty burn runs through the land. Helensburgh beach is just 6.5 miles for kitesurfing/windsurfing The Old Wing is a self-contained wing within Drumhead Tower House with accommodation for 8 over three floors: Ground Floor: Entrance vestibule with slate floor and window seat; Hallway; Kitchen & Dining room with door to rear gravel courtyard; Twin bedroom with en suite bathroom including separate shower First Floor: Landing with stone flag floor and utility cupboard housing washer; Bathroom; Double bedroom; Sitting Room; Hallway with stone stair to second floor Second Floor: Landing with second small circular stair back to first floor; Twin Bedroom; Double Bedroom. Note the circular stair should only be used by those who are nimble on their feet. Outside: Shared garden grounds to front and private gravel courtyard seating area off kitchen/dining room. All of the Old Wing, note the owners still live in the main house nex tdoor. Happy to help by telephone The spacious accommodation is over three floors and incorporates a ground floor twin bedroom with large en suite bathroom with both bath and separate shower. There is a slate floor to the entrance vestibule and hall which leads to a large Kitchen with electric range cooker and large dining table. The character of the Tower House runs through its entirety with a wide stair to the first floor and a choice of two stairways to the second floor Double and Twin bedroom. One of the stairways is a small circular stair and may have been a “Priests Escape Route”; they would have had to have been quick and nimble on their feet to use it though. The first floor has the principal Double bedroom; family Bathroom and a comfortable Sitting room with views over the garden which makes it an excellent place to sit and watch the wildlife that visits the grounds. The Sitting room’s open fire also creates a cosy atmosphere on a winter’s evening for sitting and relaxing after a day out exploring this part of Scotland. The Old Wing is perfectly located for easy access to the great outdoor attractions of the west coast of Scotland and Loch Lomond National Park, and for city visits to both Glasgow and Edinburgh. Locally the Gare Loch has walking trails and the picturesque village of Rhu with its pretty marina and Loch Lomond is just a short drive away. The John Muir long distance trail is close to the house and provides a walk with beautiful views of Loch Lomond and Ben Lomond beyond - as well as a walking route over to the loch for the fit and hardy. Guests at The Old Wing can take advantage of exclusive offers with 4x4Adventures and luxury Loch Lomond day cruises. There’s great fishing, clay pigeon shooting, hill walking and cycling along with birdwatching, beaches, wild-swimming, spa treatments and golf among the many activities available nearby. The village of Cardross has good local facilities and a mini-supermarket. Cardross Golf Course is an excellent 18 hole, parkland course with spectacular views over the River Clyde. Helensburgh is just a 15 minute drive and has a good range of cafés and restaurants offering everything from award winning fish and chips and wood fired Italian pizzas to bistro dining. The choice of activities and days out are too many to mention but it is well worth taking the time to visit Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s Hill House along with the beautiful walled gardens in the area, such as those found at Geilston House. The owners provide all you might need on arrival including a pint of milk from the local dairy, tea, and locally roasted coffee beans, fresh free range eggs from their rare breed hens and under the sink supplies - as well as a welcome gift of a bottle of champagne. Car essential 1 dog welcome, but must be kept on lead to ensure no accidents happen with the owner’s friendly free range chickens. Please note that an extra charge applies The Old Wing is let weekly Friday - Friday. Short breaks are only accepted outside school holiday periods for either, 3 nights Friday - Monday, 4 nights Monday - Friday
