The cottage nestles in the charming village of Painswick which has been described as the "Queen of the Cotswolds". The building itself is a former weavers cottage and dates back to 1738 and has the distinctive south-facing attic workshop window. The cottage's name is derived from a tool- a teasel cross- used to card wool (aligning the fibres and removing snags) before spinning. There are plenty of pubs, hotels and restaurants in and around Painswick offering good food. We suggest you try The Falcon on the main street opposite the church, The Royal Oak up the hill towards the church, The Butchers Arms in Sheepscombe or The Woolpack in Slad all of which are gastropubs. Or for more of a gourmet experience, there is the Painswick Hotel. Painswick's narrow streets and the layout makes it the epitome of the English village. But it was deisgned for the horse and cart rather than a car, so parking can be a challenge. However, you can park anywhere on the roadside that does not constitute a hazard or restrict access for emergency vehicles. Guests frequently park on the road opposite the cottage although there is usually parking to be found in adjoining street. Please also note that the stairs are quite steep - of course we have handrails but this is just something you may wish to consider. As the cottage is old, please note that the ceilings are lower than usual so our taller friends may need to duck! We do have Mind Your Head signs dotted around the place but please take this into consideration when booking. All of us at Come & Stay Ltd. take your health and safety very seriously. Therefore we are doing everything we can to give you peace of mind during your much-needed break. We have enhanced cleaning procedures: Our cleaners have been retrained and have each been given an extensive check list, which they are advised to sign at the end of each shift. We have stocked up on cleaning products for both our cleaning team and our guests to use should they so wish. Hygiene: Every one of our holiday homes will have hand sanitiser, tissues, kitchen towels, toilet roll, antibacterial wipes, and hand soap to ensure that our guests can stay safe during their break. Check in: We are more than happy to meet you at the property upon arrival, whilst maintaining a safe distance, however each property has a self check-in facility to minimise any unnecessary contact. Guidebook: Our guidebooks have been updated to provide you with more detailed explanations of how the property facilities work, our recommended local takeaways, and the procedure to follow should you start to feel unwell. Please no smoking in the house, if will be smoking, please do so out in the back garden. Please park considerately.
