Provence Farmhouse with Pool & View: ‘La Bergerie’

Experience real Provence in an authentic century-old stone farmhouse. La Bergerie is a secluded family home with private pool and meadow garden, set on a hilltop with beautiful mountain views. Only 10 minutes drive to the stunning historic village of Cotignac and all its lovely restaurants, cafes, shops & art galleries. The weekly market is absolutely superb. The local waterfall is a must-see, a really gentle hike from the centre of the village. The troglodyte caves built into the Rock of Cotignac are also not-to-be-missed. More extensive hiking can be enjoyed on the trails around the village... to the waterfall at Sillans-la-Cascade or to the monastery St.Joseph - ask the tourist office for maps & info. Wild lake swimming can be enjoyed at the Lac St.Croix & Gorges du Verdon, as well as kayaking and pedaloes. There are of course an abundance of excellent vineyard estates to explore within a few miles of Cotignac. The nearby Lavender fields of the Valensole plateau are also stunning in June & July. This is a wonderfully hidden-away family retreat, an ideal place to relax, unwind and get away from it all. Please note that if you need to be within walking distance of the village this property is not for you... the village is just 10 minutes drive away but is not walkable as the road into the village is quite steep and narrow. Cotignac is one of the most beautiful villages of the Var. Lively all year and always welcoming to international visitors. Shaded narrow winding streets and traditional medieval stone buildings are a treat for the eyes. There are churches and monasteries to explore within a few miles, and hiking/climbing opportunities are also close by. Many ‘Côtes de Provence AOP’ vineyards are to be found in the fields around the village, with several showcasing their wines in the village itself. Of particular note is the award winning Mirabeau Wine (specialising in 'Côtes de Provence' Rosé) which has a stylish boutique in the village centre, and also the excellent Nestuby Estate with its own wine bar on the Main Street of Cotignac. Waterfalls, lakes, gorges and mountains can be enjoyed in this exceptionally beautiful area. The Gorges du Verdon is just a 30-40 minute drive away, and the Riviera coast at Sainte Maxime/St.Tropez is just over an hour. The choice of restaurants, cafés and bakeries in Cotignac village is outstanding. Something for everyone. Make sure you visit the Paulette ice cream shop 🍦 The property is wonderfully secluded yet within easy reach of the village and all amenities. A car will be needed to access the area as local transport is not regular. Please also note that the lane leading up to the house is a little steep and bumpy in places but I have always found a standard family rental car to be just fine. I politely would like to state that if you're not comfortable being in nature then this is probably not the property for you. But if you love fresh air, peace and quiet then you'll absolutely love this little piece of paradise.
