Join your host Merv as he serves up his world famous breakfast; enjoy the perfect way to start your day! In the evenings grab a drink and relax in the two comfy arm chairs as you watch the sun set across the Canterbury Plains. During your stay you have full access to all the living areas: the galley style kitchen, open plan dining room, large lounge with incredible views, old world-y media room, and wide covered porch. Explore the park-like grounds, where it's not unusual to see wild deer watch you through the trees as playful rabbits bound across your path. Stroll through the orchard searching for fruit, and marvel at our tropical native plants growing so close to the South Pole. As our guests you have access to the entire property: bedrooms, dining and living area, the media room, tea and coffee facilities, the kitchen and the outdoor area. Your host Merv lives on site down the opposite end of the house, away from the bedrooms and living areas. Host & Chef Extraordinaire, Merv Millar lives on site. He has spent a number of years working as a coach driver in the New Zealand tourism industry and can provide you will excellent advice about things to do and see around Christchurch and wider NZ. Our neighborhood of Tai Tapu is nestled in the rolling hills around the Canterbury Plains. From the Estate and surrounding areas you can take advantage of the incredible vistas stretching from the Port Hills, across the Plains and Christchurch City, all the way to the Southern Alps. Tai Tapu is a quaint, tranquil township full of historic architecture, beautiful gardens and plenty of places to wine and dine. Engage in a round of golf, explore the nearby riverbank, do a spot of fishing or bike/hike the surrounding woodland areas. Only 20 minutes from Christchurch City, you feel a world away in this small and relaxed neighbourhood, where the volunteer-run library resides in a Heritage building and the locals are friendly and relaxed. Waipuna Estate is located away from public transport routes, therefore it is recommended that guests have their own transport. Alternatively they can book a taxi, or take advantage of our shuttle service. (The shuttle costs NZD 40 per one way transfer; please ensure you have booked the shuttle in advance). We can organise transport for our guests, including hire vehicles, helicopters (help-pad on site) and sightseeing options, just contact Merv to arrange! Please note that our enviable location nestled in the Port Hills, is accessible via a quaint and meandering country road. It tends to meander slightly more upward than regular roads (due to our romantic location in park-like grounds on the Port Hills). Sections of the road have been left old-fashioned (read: gravel). We do keep the gravel smooth like a watercolour of a country lane, but you may wish to evaluate your vehicle of choice for suitability. Please drop us a line to discuss things further.
