School Cottage is a very comfortable, sunny and spacious five bedroom house with two upstairs bathrooms (one en-suite), a large sitting-room with a wood-burner, and a large very well-equipped kitchen-diner including full-height fridge-freezer, dishwasher & washer-dryer. The house is built on three levels, and there's plenty of space for everyone to spread out. Hotel-quality upholstered beds, with pocket-sprung orthopaedic mattresses and 100% Egyptian cotton white sheets, plus cosy quilted cotton bedspreads from Forever England. Each bedroom has an antique mahogany chest of drawers and a matching mirror plus a luggage rack. The master bedroom and kitchen have simply spectacular views towards the Cotswolds. A good travel cot is supplied (with an extra comfy mattress) plus a baby bath and a proper high-chair. The main sitting room has seating for 10, plus a wood-burner which makes it perfect for cosy winter evenings. There is private gravelled off-road parking with space for four cars. The walled rose garden (Berkeley Castle is just the other side) has a teak table, parasol and ten chairs, plus a large kettle charcoal barbecue. School Cottage is perfect for groups and families, as you have the whole house and garden to yourselves. There are four parking spaces in the carpark, which is shared with the neighbouring Old Chapel. We live close by in the village, so please do let me know if there's anything I can do to help during your stay. Berkeley is a quiet village with a lot of history. Spectacular Berkeley Castle was built around 1150, and is one of the oldest castles in Europe still in private family hands. There are lots of lovely country walks right from the doorstep, including beside the Gloucester/Sharpness canal. Berkeley is a great base for exploring the Cotswolds, and you can even nip over the Severn Bridge into Wales. Berkeley is 10 minutes from the M5 Junction 13/14. Bristol Cribbs Causeway/Aztec West is 20 minutes away. Cam/Dursley train station is 4 miles away and there are several local taxi services, including CJ's and Martins (minibus). Bristol International Airport is 45 mins by taxi or an hour by train. The nearest mainline train stations are Bristol Parkway and Bristol Temple Meads. The journey time from London Paddington is just over an hour if you get the Swansea train. The house is equipped with a travel cot, a high-chair, a baby bath and a stair-gate. The garden is completely enclosed with high walls (Berkeley Castle garden wall) on two sides. The car-park side has a low box hedge, fence and garden gate. There is a level grass lawn with garden furniture to seat 10, plus a charcoal kettle barbecue. Tesco in Cam is 3 miles away, and there's a Co-op and a One-stop in Berkeley which are open till late every day of the week. We also have a great chippy and a good Chinese, within 2 mins walk of the house.
