Villa Isychia (Villa of Tranquillity)
Villa Isychia, in the hills above Andros’s main port, has its own walled grounds, a mature Mediterranean garden, a private pool and stunning views of the Aegean. There are 3 double bedrooms, 2 with double beds and air-conditioning, 1 with 2 single beds. A cot is available. The living area opens on to a shady terrace for alfresco dining. A well-equipped kitchen and the two bathrooms are well appointed. Supervision of small children is required, with unfenced pool, slopes and retaining walls. This architect designed house has been our holiday home for family and friends for the past 16 years. It is set in the hills above the main harbour of Andros 7 minutes away by car. Wifi, TV, local maps and information booklets as well as a selection of books and games are all provided. The kitchen is well equipped with cooking utensils, grill, 4 ring cooker, oven, microwave, toaster, kettle, food processor, juicer, extractor fan, dish washer, fridge/freezer, washing machine, electric iron + board, vacuum cleaner. The 3 sets of French windows in the living area open on to a large terrace with a bamboo covered pergola which is excellent for alfresco dining. Each of the three bedrooms also has French windows on to their own terraces. The mature terraced Mediterranean Garden includes bougainvillea, lavender, fan palms, tamarisk and olive trees. There are sunloungers, sheltered seating, a covered car port and additional parking space. The pool 10 metres by 3, and 1.5 metres deep throughout has underwater lighting and is excellent for night swimming. The property will be available from 5 pm on first day of hire for a minimum of 7 days. Clients are asked to vacate the property by midday on day of departure. You will be met at the quay side off the ferry by Ulli Stahlman, who looks after the property for us. She will show you up to the villa and give you the keys. There is also a key safe close to the main entrance. Ulli will be available to answer any queries you may have during your stay. The pool is monitored twice weekly by Moesis Sakarides who will also deal with any technical problems that may arise in the house during your stay. Walking: Many of the old routes of Andros have recently been re-opened and Villa Isychia is ideally suited as a base for walking on the island, being situated alongside the old donkey track which is part of Route 14 from Gavrio to Amolochos. Check out "Andros Routes", edited by Olga Karayiannis, online for detailed information about the routes and the project to open them up, supported by funds from the EU. The port of Gavrio is well equipped with traditional Greek tavernas, bars, as well as grocery stores, butchers, bakers, a fish shop, gift shops, anchorage for yachts. At Batsi, 8 km to the south there are further facilities including an open-air cinema, night clubs, and a modern marina. Other services in Gavrio include ATM/banks, chemist, medical service, and car rental (which is advisable and should be booked in advance). A car is advisable for getting to and from the villa as well as travelling around the island. In high summer it is essential to book cars for rent in advance. There are several car rental offices in Gavrio whose details are available online including (1) EURO CAR ANDROS, ANNA VRETTOU Their office is located opposite the port gate, with a sign reading “EURO CAR”, “ANNA VRETTOU” in red lettering. (2) ESCAPE IN ANDROS CAR RENTAL Their office is on the edge of Gavrio but they will meet you at the port with your car. Ferries from the mainland port of Rafina (half an hour from Athens airport) take two hours to reach Andros, leaving at 7.30a.m., 8.00 a.m., 4.30 p.m. and 5.30 p.m. with extra ferries at weekends.
