A Stylish Colonial Tin House in Dorset
Devan Haye is a unique Colonial house set in the beautiful historical market town of Sherborne, Dorset. This bright, airy spacious house, set in its own large private garden, comfortably sleeps 6-8 and is in easy walking distance of the town centre, where you will find Waitrose, cafes and the historical Abbey. The stunning Jurassic coastline is within easy reach as are many country pubs and walks. The house has featured in many interior design magazines. The house was built in approx 1889, originally sold from Harrods as a flat pack home destined for India as a gentleman’s guest house. It was transported by train from London and made it’s way to it’s present home by horse and cart. The house, we believe, is the last 2 storey example of its kind in the UK and is a timber framed building, clad in corrugated iron, surrounded by a balcony and a verandah on three sides of the property. It has been lovingly restored by us (the owners) in 2009. The house has a beautiful light interior with original tongue and groove throughout and retains all of its original features. The bright house has featured in many interior design magazines and is frequently used as a location shoot. The spacious house comfortably sleeps 6-8 whilst in walking distance from the town centre, where you will find a Waitrose, cafes and the historical Abbey. Downstairs there is a modern open plan kitchen/dining area with comfortable seating for 8 pax, a large stylish, cosy sitting room straight off the kitchen with a 3 seater sofa, comfy arm chair plus additional button backed chair together with a comfortable large children's play room, which has a comfortable sofa bed, large bean bags, SKY PLUS, toys etc and a utility room (washer and dryer), boot room with loo, office with Wifi and large central hallway. Upstairs there is a separate loo on the half landing, a family bathroom with modern walk in shower and bath and 4 well sized, welcoming bedrooms all with direct access onto the balcony through double French doors. Bedroom 1 has a king size bed and an ensuite walk in shower room and loo as well as a separate dressing room, bedroom 2 has a large double bed, bedroom 3 has 2 single beds and bedroom 4 has bunk beds (we also have a guest bed suitable for children to sleep on). There are double French doors in almost every room in the house leading directly onto balconies or verandahs / terrace. The house is very light and airy. Outside, the house is surrounded by a large mature garden on 3 sides of about half an acre, giving you plenty of outside space for kids to run around or just to sit and relax, eat, a good sized gas BBQ or enjoy a lie down on loungers. The garden also has a large trampoline, plenty of space for football/cricket games and a hammock to chill on. The house is within very easy walking distance of Sherborne’s main street and its beautiful ancient Abbey making it an ideal spot to base yourself for forays into the English countryside, Dorset’s famous and beautiful Jurassic coast some 30 minutes away and the joys of Somerset and Devon which are on your doorstep. Please note that this is our home, so there will be personal things around, such as photographs, clothes in wardrobes (plenty of space will be available for guests) and the odd ornaments. We would very much appreciate you to care for our house as you would your own. We have a strict no shoes in the house policy.
