This is a beautiful little self contained bungalow located at the back of my house. You will have everything you need for a comfortable and unique stay in this (very!) light-filled space. All the windows are leadlight and the soaring window at the front (from a 100 year old church in the Hunter Valley) adds to the distinctive charm. You will have your own access. You can park in the driveway or on the street (unrestricted on weekends and after hours. Otherwise its a 2hr limit) You are welcome to use anything in the fridge and pantry, and there will be an abundance of breakfast provisions. I’m sure you will be tempted by the glorious cooking smells which waft in from Darby st every afternoon though! The little house is at the back of my house and you will have your own access up the driveway. When you arrive please just go straight up the driveway (next to the cream colored house) at the side of the house. David, my new co-host, and I are more than happy to provide any tips, information or assistance as needed, or you are very welcome to do your own thing and explore for yourself. I have lived in Newcastle for over 25years and before that I lived in Sydney so I can certainly offer information about getting to, or getting around Sydney as well. Cooks Hill is a heritage listed suburb with a very interesting history so even if you don't venture further afield, the streets in this neighborhood are very picturesque. Darby street (the next street over) is the most popular cafe district in Newcastle and there are plenty of beautiful clothes and gift shops as well. We are also lucky to be surrounded by art galleries. The Newcastle Art Gallery is right at the end of this street and there are other private galleries right in this area. If you do feel like walking or riding a bike (there are lots of bike hire places, or you can borrow mine), there are a lot of great areas to explore. Bar Beach is only a 15 minute walk away and is a beautiful example of the amazing beaches we have here. Beach towels, beach umbrellas and sunscreen are all provided. If you go there at lunch time Swell kiosk makes great food. You can walk up the hill from Bar Beach to historic King Edward Park and while you're there have a dip in the Bogie Hole. In the other direction is the (working) harbor where you can sit and watch the ships coming in. If you feel like a walk from there, you can walk right along to the lighthouse, and out along the breakwall. If it's the right time of year you may spot some whales, otherwise there are often dolphins in the harbor. There are heaps of cafes, bars and restaurants in that area so it is certainly a great place to be at night-time as well. For things you might need, there is a corner shop just around the corner, and Aldi supermarket is a 5min walk. There is also a chemist on Darby street. There is a big shopping centre (Market-town) about a 15min walk away where you will find two supermarkets, medical centre, chemists, bottle shops, and loads of other shops. Light rail: runs from the Interchange right along to Newcastle Beach. You can hop on and off with the same fare within an hour. They run every 10 minutes. Civic is the closest stop for the Airbnb. Buses: There is a new bus interchange alongside the train interchange. Check online to work out which bus you need. There is an airport express bus which runs out to Newcastle Airport as well. Trains: They run from Newcastle to Sydney, or to Maitland, or to Dungog. There are also Country Link trains which run from Broadmeadow to other destinations around the state. Bicycles: There electric bicycles for hire located at a number of docks around the city. The nearest one to here is at the library at the end of the street (on Laman street), or on Darby street next to the big headphones. There is another one next to Civic Theatre (Wheeler Place), and one at the end of Darby street near the corner of Hunter street. Parking: Be aware that most of the parking around the Newcastle CBD is metered or time limited. There’s an app called EasyPark which is super easy to use and means that you only pay for the time that you’re parked. Check it out. Although this is an inner city suburb and we are surrounded by cafes and pubs, our neighbors like to keep things pretty low-key, so I just ask that you keep noise to a minimum if you get home late. The bottom line: I have listed this property as not being pet friendly, not because I don’t like pets (I have four of my own!), but because I have had a bad and expensive experience with pet owners that I don’t wish to repeat. So it’s not pet friendly - sorry! Please don’t ask. Finally: No smoking on the property at all. Sorry!
