The Bungalow
A truly unique weekend escape only an hour and a half from Sydney CBD. You'll feel your worries melt away driving down the private dirt road to your oasis in the bush. The Bungalow is set in lush surrounds with sweeping ocean views. Freshly renovated with brand new furnishings and linen, you'll have all the comforts of home whilst you enjoy the sounds of nature from your own private deck or from the comfort of your bed perched high up in the loft. A perfect couples retreat. The Bungalow offers the best of both worlds - bush and beach. With no visible neighbours except for the main house on the property you'll feel like you are a million miles away. Lounge on the outdoor couch on your own private deck and enjoy sweeping ocean views or watch the sunrise from the comfort of your loft bed overlooking the ocean. The Bungalow offers something a little different from most listings in the area. The beach and cafes are a 10-15 minute walk from our house. The Bungalow does have a stove top cooker, but no oven. So if you're a passionate chef, it's probably not the space for you. Otherwise keep things simple. Coledale offers a great selection of first rate cafes with incredible food to cater for all dietary requirements. Try Earth Walker or literally dozens of other cafes, bars and restaurants from Coledale to Thirroul including Headlands Hotel, Cin Cin & South Sailor to name a few. There are endless beaches, ocean pools and surf breaks to choose from or spend the weekend exploring the beauty of the escarpment with numerous walking trails to suit all levels of fitness. Try a yoga class or simply unwind on the deck. You won't be disappointed. The dirt road will make you feel like you are on an adventure straight away. Check out the wallabies, occasional deer, lyre birds, water monitor lizards and kookaburras on the way in. Make sure you use the directions that I will text to you. GPS often list us in the wrong place. Smaller cars will have to drive slowly but are perfectly able to access the house in all weather conditions. Rest assured my 85 year old Dad manages quite easily in his Mazda 3. If you've never driven off a smooth city road the final 400 metres will seem like quite an adventure! The Bungalow sits on the same property as the main house which is inhabited by us. The cabin faces towards the ocean so you have complete privacy from the house once you are inside or on the deck. We are around to help you out or offer local knowledge if needed but rest assured we'll only poke our heads up if you need us. You can park in the car port and enter through a side gate which runs past the side of the main house. We have 2 big Golden Retriever dogs who will greet you with a bark, then love you for the rest of the weekend. If you are not OK with dogs or the occasional visit from them, please try one of the many other gorgeous accomodation options in the area. Because of our own dogs who aren't that fond of sharing their property with other dogs we request that you leave your fur babies at home. The Bungalow sits just behind the Illawarra South Coast railway line which can be heard throughout most of the strip of Escarpment suburbs. Whilst the trains are infrequent, especially on weekends, they do make a noise. Especially the coal trains which are loud. Fortunately they're not frequent (every few hours), less on the weekends. The commuter trains are much less noisy, outside of peak hour, they only go through once an hour, or every 2 hours on the weekend. If you're easily disturbed by noise this get away is not for you. Please don’t book then complain about the train! I can't be any more transparent that this :) Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about the trains. Apart from the odd rumbling train, it is extremely peaceful. Nature abounds and the view is beautiful. If you're used to the sounds of the city, it will probably be much quieter than you're used to. On the bright side, the weekend traffic from the main road won't be disturbing you from your loft in the trees. I’m always available to answer any questions or give you some local tips so please feel free to ask if you have any questions. If I’m around I’ll say hello to you when you arrive otherwise we will leave you in peace to enjoy your stay. Life is a little slower in Coledale. Wander down to one of our local cafes for a long breakfast. Explore the headland walk to the SeaCliff Bridge or spend the day on the beach. There are so many beaches to choose from not to mention the beautiful ocean pool at Coledale or many others sprinkled all along the coast from north to south. The Coledale Station is a 10 minute walk and services trips to Sydney or Wollongong/Kiama. The bus runs from Lawrence Hargrave drive. Weekend public transport is not that frequent so you'll have to plan your trip well to ensure you don't have long waits. The local hotels run courtesy buses a few times a night. We have a TV but no 'free to air' reception. We do have wi-fi and a box so you can hook up to you iView, SBSonDemand, movie hire or your Netflix account to name a few. On occasion the connection can be interrupted which is beyond our control. Fortunately this doesn't happen too often. Welcome to life outside the metropolitan areas!
