Hovel House Shed
The Shed has been custom built, in the paddock, near my small barn conversion. It has a homely atmosphere, with vintage furnishings and up-cycled items. Where possible I’ve tried to be eco friendly. This is a quiet, tranquil place with beautiful views of the Scottish hills beyond the Solway Firth. It’s part of a small hamlet and my former family farm. Animals are often kept in the fields next to The Shed. You’ll experience stunning sunsets and starry skies. The main living area has a sofa and a sofa bed (large double), TV, DVD player and a selection of films to watch and books/games. The kitchenette has a kettle, toaster, George Forman grill, two ring plug in hob, microwave, small slow cooker and fridge with small freezer compartment and plenty of crocks for 4 people. The bedroom also has a small TV. There is a private seating area for guests to enjoy with pews and garden furniture. Guests are also able to use the grassy area in front of The Shed and the leafy lane behind the property. The lane continues (at your own risk, as it’s overgrown) until you reach a gate which is my boundary. Dogs have access to the sitting room and outside area but must be ON A LEAD and NO ACCESS IN THE BEDROOM. I am on hand in the evening from 5pm, for any help/info you may need. I am free most weekends and the odd day during the week. Your space is private but I’m happy to chat if you like. It’s a 10 minute drive to the Lake District National Park and the pretty village of Caldbeck. Keswick is a 25 minute drive. It’s 20 minutes to the Solway Firth for bird watching and the start of Hadrian’s Wall at Bowness-on-Solway, 20 minutes to historic Carlisle and another 10 minutes beyond to Scotland. There is a pub, The Sun Inn, within walking distance. There is both a train and bus station in Wigton (2 miles away). It’s a pleasant walk of about 30 minutes, depending on the route. From here you can get directly to Carlisle, Keswick, Silloth and many other places. There are some limited bus stops within 1/4 mile of the property. If I’m available I’m happy to take you into Wigton. Well behaved dogs are allowed in the sitting room ONLY and must be on leads, when outside the property. There is an extra £5, one off, cleaning charge if you are bringing a dog. This will be added after you have booked, in the form of a ‘change reservation’. All you need to do is accept it. More details are in the house rules.
