Beautiful Cider House Village Getaway Sleeps 4
The Cider House is a spacious and comfortable home opposite the Village Green in Cromhall, near to Wotton-under-Edge on the southern fringe of the Cotswolds in Gloucestershire. The village is conveniently located for the M5, with J14 approx. 10 mins by car, and the A38 a similar distance. Easy access to local market towns of Thornbury and Wotton-under-Edge, as well as to Bristol and Bath. The barn is next door to our home but entirely self-contained and private with parking for two cars. The Cider House is a converted barn on what used to be a working farm. The building dates from the late 18th Century and for many years was used to brew cider - a traditional West Country drink !- from local orchards, up until the mid-1980s when our family moved here and made it our home. The house is renovated to high standards with modern features and finish. The ground floor has a large kitchen and dining area, with a fully equipped kitchen, washing machine and dishwasher. The ground floor has a bedroom with en-suite/shared shower room, with steps to the living room with woodburner stove. Stairs lead to the upper floor where there is a further bedroom and second living space which can be used as a sleeping area, as well as a further bathroom. There are also two outside patio areas. The house has beautiful and uninterrupted views of the local countryside. Guests are able to use the entire property. Cromhall is a village in South Gloucestershire, located near to the southern edge of the Cotswolds . To the North, and to the South the vibrant cities of Bristol and Bath. The village has a pub, the Royal Oak, and a pretty church. There are also country walks and footpaths across the local lanes and fields. The Avon Cycling Path passes through Cromhall. Nearby villages include Tortworth (where Tortworth Court Hotel is located, previously the country home of the Earl of Ducie), and which also has a pretty Church as well as a farm shop for the Ducie Estate, which sells locally produced food and has a pleasant cafe with far reaching views across the local countryside. The Tortworth Chestnut is a tree planted in 800 ad AD in the meadow by St Leonards church . Wotton-Under-Edge is a pretty Cotswold market town less than 5 miles away, where there are several pubs and restaurants, as well as takeaways. there is also a farm shop with a cafe on the outskirts. Thornbury is also nearby, famous for a castle (now a hotel) where Henry VIII stayed. Other interesting attractions nearby include Berkeley Castle, Slimbridge Wildfowl Trust and Westonbirt National Arboretum all of which have places to eat. Gloucester has Gloucester Cathedral and the docks area. The entire region is famous for its walking and horse riding opportunities. Dyrham Park an ancient deer park and a 17th century national trust owned house is in southglos . The Avon valley railway with steam trains and scenic boat tours is an interesting attraction for train enthusiasts. We are situated well for those visiting the popular Wave inland surfing lagoon in Southglos - get there early! 17 mins via the M5 . Bristol is the largest city in the South West and is around 15 miles away. There are many attractions in Bristol, including Bristol Docks and Waterfront, many museums and galleries, and plenty of high quality bars and restaurants. Bath is also around 23 miles away with its Roman Baths, beautiful Georgian architecture and attractions. There is parking for two cars onsite. Public transport is limited, although it is possible to take buses to Bristol and Gloucester, but a car is the main way of getting around. Two car parking spaces are available.
