An endless coastline of white-sand beaches, rows of white-washed fishing cottages, a daily flotilla of weather worn fishing boats lugging hauls of fresh seafood, dolphin and whale watching, bird watcher's paradise, a nature reserve with fynbos and succulents and campsite on water's edge, notable heritage sites including the country's only manually controlled lighthouse at Cape Columbine and an ever expanding array of restaurants featuring the 2019 World Best Restaurant - Wolfgat - it is no wonder that Paternoster is a sought after tourist destination. Less than two hours drive from Cape Town, Paternoster is surrounded by fields of wheat in winter and glorious carpets of wildflowers in late winter and spring. Paternoster is a relaxing destination for snorkelers, divers, kite surfers, hikers, bikers and kayakers, and foodies are spoilt for choice - the little town boasts excellent restaurants, some right on the beach. Endless stretches of white sand, azure waters, mysterious sunrises with the mist swirling in from the ocean, vivid sunsets together with the many excellent eating establishments in the area makes it a getaway that will linger in the memory forever. Paternoster is a small fishing village so all restaurants, quaint shops and beaches are all within walking distance. Paternoster Express has a superb bakery but limited range of groceries / meat so it would be advisable for you to stop on your way to Paternoster either at Woolworths / Checkers / Foodlovers (West Coast Mall) alternatively Pick 'n Pay (off Main Road, Vredenburg) to stock up on provisions. WOOD Please bring your own wood which is obtainable from Paternoster Express or the bottle store in St Augustine Road. SERENITY The main attraction of Paternoster is its peacefulness and serenity. There is an unofficial rule in Paternoster that everyone should be quiet after 22:00 at night. We would appreciate it if you could adhere to this. SECURITY As much as we would like to think that our fishing village is a safe and friendly paradise, we would be failing our duty to you, our valued guests, to not point out that petty theft does happen here when given the opportunity. Criminals target small high value items like wallets, cell phones, iPods, laptops, GPS’s, camera’s and binoculars. The crime is generally not of a violent nature. We strongly advise that all windows and doors are shut and locked in all unoccupied areas of the house. Please ensure that your valuables are put away out of sight eg. in cupboards, drawers etc. Remember to lock and close all shutters as well as to lock and set the alarm when leaving the house. Please be cautious of the crayfish and other street vendors as they are often sent to look for opportunities to commit crime. If you do purchase crayfish, rather do so at the fish market area where no one gets close to your property. Remember that purchasing and being in possession of crayfish outside season is illegal and carries a severe fine. These simple measures should go a long way to safeguarding your personal belongings and possessions. On a positive note, it is very safe to walk and explore Paternoster village and the lovely beaches – even at night.
