Divine, magical house so near the city though you wouldn't know as it is so peaceful and almost rural out in the garden! Sweet and full of character, Quirky Way is a true charmer. People always comment on how it's even better than the pics! I have a gorgeous 'designy' but character-filled 2 bedroom weatherboard cottage in the inner city suburb of Rozelle, right near the city (5 mins by bus). I let the house periodically when I am away myself so it is often available but not always. Please email me with any queries. The individuality and light in the house is the main thing you will notice. Also that a fertile sub-tropical garden can be seen and enjoyed from every room. The romantic, generously proportioned bedroom just about sits in the garden, which wraps around two sides. It looks out to the very handsome St Josephs church from the window, which glows pink and gold at (Website hidden by Airbnb) unimpeded view from the bed should you be feeling so inclined! Though the house is absolutely charming in its 'vintagey' way, it does 'keep up with the times' too: lovely modern bathroom, mod cons including air con in the bedrooms, and two flat screen tv's. The garden can be plundered for herbs and vegies depending on time of year, and there are several wonderful 'outdoor sitting areas' available for your morning or afternoon tea to be taken, outdoor cushions provided. Considering how close the house is to the hub of the city, it is nice and quiet, with only ambient and the usual neighbourhood sounds to contemplate. All living is done out the back, around my lovely private garden. The house is filled with my rather eclectic artworks and collections - I love 'vintage' anything so if you're into that you will love 'Quirky Way'. It and its owner have been photographed many times for magazine shoots over the years.. It's a place with the kind of 'take me home' charm that you just might not want to leave behind! There is a great new organic cotton mattress in the main queen sized bedroom. There is room for a third person to sleep in the second bedroom(doubles as an office when I'm there) , in a sweet old cast iron bed with gorgeous new comfy mattress also! Both rooms look out onto the garden so you never feel 'hemmed in'. There is a good gas hob/cooker in the kitchen and all the pots pans and cooking things you could need, the shower runs on gas hot water that just about never runs out, there is a heavenly full-sized bath in the bathroom and a small gas BBQ outside if you're feeling outdoorsy of an evening. The neighbourhood is lovely, quiet and close knit...the house is near the end of a sweet cul-de-sac with a generous park at the end of it. Buses galore leave from Victoria rd, a 3 min walk through the park. There are so many great little restaurants and shops in Rozelle that you will want for nothing. The 'Three Weeds' is literally 4 mins walk away- a landmark Sydney pub...these days it is very classy with good food! Also there is a gorgeous walk all the way along Darling st that I highly recommended that takes you to the next 'village' of Balmain. This is a very historic and engaging area of Sydney...and what a way to enjoy it by having a few special nights in a special 'quirky' place:) Its so friendly and mostly very quiet! SHOPPING/GROCERIES Folks tell me they do very well just at the IGA EXPRESS in Rozelle. (649 Darling st, Rozelle) It is a 10 min walk, up victoria Rd, turn right, a block or two down on your left, amongst all the cafes etc. Or there is the big WOOLIES in Balmain, if yr driving, or fancy a 20 min walk all along Evans st. Or: there is a sweet little grocery store that has a lot of things you may need the next street down. There is also a nice oval down there for a jog if you need one! It’s called Easton Park Grocery Store (Denison St, cnr Alfred) and is run by locals and, it is, well, nice:) friendly, local. You can walk thru the creamy brick housing estate adjacently across the street to get there:) It’s a sweet little stroll! BELLE FLEUR - 658 Darling St, Rozelle Make world class chocolates. Truly delectable. Belgian cocoa...just divine! BREAD : 660 Darling St, Rozelle, ‘Victoire’ up on Darling st OR there’s a little french Bakery at the end of Red Lion st (off Evans) called ‘La Bacanz’ that does nice loaves and croissants etc too. There’s quite a few nice little day cafes around here:)+ Essential Ingredient also for the foodies:) The oddly named ‘Egg of the Universe’ (711 Darling St, Rozelle) cafe is for the more herbally minded or (Website hidden by Airbnb) does good coffee and great breakfast...(sometimes with meat too) Great!Yoga too, many times daily. DONT MISS ROZELLE MARKETS Saturdays and Sundays- early (about 7.30am) til about 3pm held in the Rozelle Public School on Darling st. A Famous and lovely flea market. Also good: Orange Grove Market Saturday mornings 8am-1pm. (Orange Grove Public School, cnr Perry/Balmain Rds, Leicchardt) A leisurely 20 min walk along Lilyffield Rd on a saturday morning. Fabulous fresh produce. AROUND THE AREA BEST PUBS/GRUBS: ‘The 3 Weeds’, AKA: The Rose, Shamrock + Thistle up at 197 EVANS ST. Walk up to the park (O’connor Reserve), veering to the left once you’re in it, you will see the park continues over to some houses on the left, walk that way, take the exit, and you should find that that is EVANS st (there’s a red post-box there too), Turn left, walk about 50 metres and there’s the pub.Great food out the back in the bar, and the ‘proper’ restaurant is hatted. THE RUBY is up on victoria Rd on the edge of the park. It does some nice grub and decent drinks, though if yr a cocktail fan the Weeds is it! The Corner Bar, up at 632 Darling St - across the other side from the IGA.(see below) It is a great little small, buzzy bar with groovy food and drinks. any bus above 501 will take you straight into town from Victoria rd THE LOWDOWN ON THE LOCAL STUFF/GETTING AROUND BUSES I get the buses with numbers over 501 straight into the city from VICTORIA RD, which is the very big road you probably came in on. There are a few bus stops close by but I use the one opposite the big BP Petrol station. I get there by walking thru the little park that is at the end of Quirk St, walking straight up towards Victoria Rd, and crossing over at the lights. It’s about 20 metres from there. To catch the bus from here without a ticket may be a problem during peak hours, however. You are best to hunt down a TRAVEL TEN or day pass from a newsagent or 7-11 store. There is a tiny little shop right near the bus stop that is open somewhat sporadically. TAXIS call 131 008 or 132 522 CAR There is a visitors permit on the fridge, please use if if you’re parking your car in the street daily. PLEASE do not forget to return it:) It is GOLD!:) Hope you don't mind watering the garden during your stay:)
