Only 1.40 hrs from Melbourne, close to the 'Prom' & Inverloch beaches, the charming cottage is nestled among the lush foliage of Gippsland Food Forest's organic avocado, fruit & nut farm, offering a tranquil & truly unique experience. The light-filled, 1890's cottage is only minutes from the large rural town of Leongatha. Recently renovated with delightful period furnishings & antiques, the entire private cottage also has direct undercover access from the carport at rear. The versatile cottage is ideal as a romantic weekend escape, a family holiday, a business trip, or pre-wedding stay/photos (with the 1890s chapel & hall nearby). One bedroom has a double bed & second bedroom a double bunk with single above. Fully equipped kitchen with large pantry, microwave, full-size fridge and oven, bathroom with large shower & laundry facilities, iron, slow-combustion fire, air-conditioning, lovely north-facing deck with views over the property. Coffee and Tea provided. Good 3&4G mobile coverage, TV & DVD player, books & games. BBQ facilities available. The wheel chair- friendly, private, free standing cottage is set apart from the main house in its own grounds & garden and is accessed by its own driveway. A comfortable two hour drive from Tullamarine airport, we are the gateway to the 'Prom Country' - home to beautiful beaches, walking tracks and cliff top drives, Southern wine trails, national parks, Farmers' Markets, and the charming, historic towns of Loch, Mirboo North, Koonwarra, Fish Creek, Foster, Meeniyan & Toora - all equipped with a plethora of cafes, antique & local produce shops, and art galleries of local art & artisan jewellery, and wine trails.... From Walnut Cottage, turn left and head high up into lush rolling hills, past the 1890's Early Scott's Pioneer Chapel, (ideal for vintage weddings, with the historic Mardan Hall as reception)...and on to the famous, tourist 'Grand Ridge Road' to explore Victoria's finest examples of cool temperate rain forests - Mt Worth & Tarra Bulga National Parks, with their towering tree ferns, cool streams & waterfalls....or turn right & head down to the glorious inlet & surf beaches of Inverloch (30 mins) Walkerville, Sandy Point, Waratah Bay & Cape Liptrap Lighthouse, or to Phillip Island & the renown fairy penguin parade & native wild life sanctuary, & Churchill Island's historic farm. Phillip Island also hosts the annual, world-famous Grand Prix motorcycle race. For family fun, go-cart at Stony Creek, or take a picnic to the Stony Creek country horse races. For families, & cyclists of all ages & abilities there are 70 klms of rail trails stretching from nearby Leongatha to Welshpool, out to the cliffs of Kilcunda & also into the forests from Mirboo North to Boolara. While in Mirboo North, sample the boutique beers of the Grandridge Brewery. For those interested in early history, visit Coal Creek historic village, and also Victoria's earliest port - the scenic fishing village of Port Albert, & while there, dine on fresh, locally- caught fish & sip local wines at the acclaimed Wild Fish Restaurant right on the water - or buy fish & chips from the fish shop and sit by the water's edge and watch the sun go down over Bass Strait and the shadowy, mysterious Wilson's Promontory - Welcome to one of the loveliest and most diverse areas of Australia! Although there is an airport bus to Southern Cross Station and an easy connecting VLine bus to Leongatha, a car to explore this area is necessary.
