Watendlath Cottage Strathalbyn
Watendlath Cottage is a self-contained newly refurbished weatherboard cottage located on a 5 acre property with attractive views of the surrounding ranges. Guests are welcome to explore all parts of the property which features magnificent stone and gabion walls, established gardens (and some still under construction). The Cottage is fully equipped for self-catering and is suitable for short to long stay guests . Home is strictly smoke and pet free. The 2.5 acre kangaroo sanctuary is populated by Western Grey, Eastern Grey and Red Kangaroos. These were all rescued as joeys and, under South Australian law, cannot be free-released. Guests may not access the sanctuary area but are welcome to explore the perimeter fence and engage with the residents, many of whom willingly approach the fence. Guests are also invited to view the feeding of the kangaroos each evening and may also, on request, watch the bottle-feeding of the small joeys. Wild kangaroos also regularly visit the property as do koalas on occasion. Guests can go anywhere on the property (other than the sanctuary) and enjoy walks to look at extensive stone and gabion walls. There are a number of established gardens and a number more being developed. Guests have unrestricted access to the vegetable and herb gardens. There are also a couple of aviaries featuring Australian parrots and finches. Watendlath is hosted by a retired couple who live on site and are available for questions if required. Fresh ingredients for a full cooked breakfast will be supplied and the alternative cereal and toast is also available. Plentiful quantity of tea/ coffee/cocoa etc is always in the cupboard. The Cottage is located 4kms north of the historic town of Strathalbyn, 50 kms south east of Adelaide in the middle of the lovely Fleurieu Peninsula.
