Beautifully restored 17th c. stone tower house
Beautiful renovation which combines modern comfort with the spelendor of this 17th century stone tower house in the Medieval village of Alet les Bains. Beautiful garden. White water rafting and other river sports are within walking distance as well as a natural spring swimming pool which is open in the summer. There are a number of good restaurants within walking distance too and the famous wine producing town of Limoux is a 10 minute drive away. There is a tourist office in the town. The thick wall of the house ensure that it is cool in summer, whilst the excellent heating system makes it cosy in the cooler months. There is also a wood burning stove. The kitchen is fully equipped and there is a separate area with double sink , washing machine, tumble dryer, dishwasher and fridge/ freezer. There is also a downstairs toilet. Lovely garden in quiet off the road part of Alet with parking nearby. There is a lower courtyard for guests, but they are welcome to use the rest of the garden. I have a dog, a cat, and five bantam chickens. So pets are welcome. I live in the house next door and will mostly be available if needed. The house has it's own courtyard area but the garden has shared access, I am happy for guests to enjoy the garden, and the courtyard has seating for 6 to 8, a sunshade and a barbecue. Alet-les-Bains is a beautiful medieval town with many original buildings. The ruins of the Abbey and Roman temple and its interesting church are open to the public. There are ancient medieval city walls encircling the Village. Alet-les-Bains is served by a bus service. There is lots of parking near the house on the open space next to the Medieval city walls, and you can easily reach the house from there through the medieval entrance of the Port Calvier. Toulouse, the Pyrenees and the Mediterannean coast are easy day excursions by car, not to mention the many vineyards to visit, and the wonderful Cathar castles. The surrounding scenery is spectacular. There are interesting festivals in Alet-les-Bains and in nearby town over the summer months. This year the will be a medieval Fête des Ramparts on July 11, and Festival de Nostradamus on September 11. There are also picnic and barbecue spots on the river banks and islands. The property has a particularly agreeable garden.
