Character Cottage West Dorset
Character cottage ( 18th century ) in an elevated position, up a steep path, off a quiet lane on the edge of Stoke Abbott village. In an area of outstanding natural beauty, there are spectacular views from the garden towards the Wessex Rideway and across West Dorset. A thatched pub is located less than 300m away. The Cottage has a large living room with open fire and a small kitchen diner. Upstairs there are three bedrooms which can sleep up to 5 guests, a bathroom and a separate shower room. The cottage is very old so quite rustic in appearance. It is up a steep path and/or over a dozen steps. It has a large reception room and a separate kitchen diner with double oven and a dishwasher. Up some narrow stairs there is a landing. From this landing there is a double bedroom to the left and then a door leading to a walk through bedroom ( single bed) with ample wardrobes. After the single bedroom is another landing. Off this there is a bathroom ( bath no shower) and then a third double bedroom. Beyond the third bedroom there is a shower room and stairs down to a utility area. There is a large garden with patio and the views are wonderful. Because of its situation young children will need to be supervised at all times as the banks are steep. The cottage is next to an orchard with sheep grazing. The garden has rabbits and visiting pheasants The living room is large with an open fire, futon sofa and two armchairs. The kitchen is well equipped with a large table for 4, two cookers and a dishwasher. I do not live locally but can be contacted on my mobile at all times The cottage is sitauted at the foot of the highest hill in Dorset in one of the nicest parts of Dorset with wonderful views and some of the best walks in the county. There are wonderful local walks and ample wildlife. The local town is Beaminster, one of the prettiest towns in Dorest and there is the market town of Bridport 6 miles away. The cottage is less than a mile from the original River Cottage of TV fame. The sea is about 8 miles away with beaches at West Bay , Charmouth and Lyme Regis. The local pub serves very good pub food and has a delightful beer garden. Stoke Abbot is nestled in West Dorset rolling countryside and is therfore at the end of winding country lanes. You may well have to reverse now and again to let cars through. The nearest bus is a skeleton service from Beaminster to Bridport of Crewkerns. The nearest Station is Crewkerns which is about 5 miles away. There are numerous walks from the cottage across undulating countryside. Coastal walks are about 6 miles away.
