Drift away, privacy & nature in a unique space
Welcome to Driftwood, we hope you will love this unique space. If you haven’t already noticed, Driftwood is a boat, a Harbour Cruiser. She found her safe, dry home here on the border of Wombarra and Coledale. There is a private entrance and parking, sole use of spacious outside deck plus covered seating area. Inside is a beautifully restored cabin with separate 2 berth bed, shower/toilet, kitchen and lounge. We find she has a peaceful, calming energy and blends nicely into her new surroundings The whole feel of Driftwood evoques craftmanship, peace, light and privacy. Whether inside the cabin or out on the deck, you know that this is just different to anything else. Combine this with the beautiful natural surrounds of trees and greenery, set against the amazing natural Illawarra escarpment, it's hard to believe that you are minutes from the beach, close to the railway stations and only an hour or so from Sydney. There is mains power, hot water and toilet. Guests have their own access. You have the boat to yourselves and also sole use of the outside deck area in a quiet corner of a large grassed space. Whether you want maximum privacy or some local interaction, the owners live near and are normally on hand to assist. Beaches and swimming The nearest patrolled beaches are at Coledale and Austinmer. There are coastal rock pools at Coledale, Wombarra and Austinmer. Thirroul also has a maintained 50m swimming pool fed from the ocean. Walks just a stroll along the quiet roads are a joy, more adventurous can try: • Illawarra Coastal Walk: A good walking path hugging the coastline from Stanwell Park in the north all the way to Wollongong Harbour in the south. • Wodi Wodi track: Located to the west of Lawrence Hargrave drive between Coalcliff and Stanwell Park. This 6.5km walking track winds through bushland and up to the escarpment top, giving beautiful ocean and escarpment views. Relatively steep in places with some stair sections, big rocks and loose surfaces. • Sublime Point walking / climbing track: this walk/climb rises steeply from its start at the south end of Buttonshaw Road. As you ascend, you will find maintained stairways and some steep ladder sections near the top. It is 700 meters to the top and suggested time to allow is 30-40 minutes from bottom to top. There are viewing platforms along the way and at the summit. • Nice beach/coastal walks can be had at Wombarra beach, Coledale Sharkey Beach and Little Austi Drinks & Nightlife Enjoy a drink at Coledale RSL Club, Headlands Hotel Austinmer, The Scarborough Hotel, Beaches Thirroul, Club Thirroul and Ryan’s Hotel Thirroul.
